Howard T. Gulseth, 88, a Devils Lake area farmer and businessman, died on Monday, June 27, 2005 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Howard will be held on Friday, July 1, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Harold Ovre will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and visitation on Friday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Serving as Casket Bearers will be Troy LaFrance, Lon LaFrance, Dane LaFrance, Ryan LaFrance, Jay Gulseth and Lanny Gulseth. Music will be provided by: JoDee Lagein, Soloist and Lynda Pearson, Organist. Howard T. Gulseth was born on June 17, 1917 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake, the son of Thorvald and Mattie (Reslock) Gulseth. He grew up on the farm and attended Noonan Township School and Devils Lake Central. He was united in marriage to Rose Marie Duft on December 26, 1937 in Devils Lake. They established their home on their farm northeast of Devils Lake where they farmed for 30 years and raised their family. While farming he also worked for Montgomery Ward Store, Penney’s, Friedman’s Men Store and the S & L. They sold their farm in 1966 and moved to Devils Lake where he managed the Eagles Club and had also served as president. In 1959, he bought “The Stables” from his brother, Ralph. He later bought “Pops” and the Gulseth Trailer Court and operated these until he retired in 1980.They continued to live in Devils Lake. Howard also served in the National Guard, Camp Grafton Unit for several years. He was a baptized and confirmed member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, a life member of Eagles, Elks and Odd Fellows Lodges. He loved hunting, especially bear hunting and fishing in Canada and also pontooning on Devils Lake. Howard loved sports and was a strong supporter of many area ball teams. Howard is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Rose Sons: Ronald Gulseth and his wife, Teresa of Phoenix, Arizona Richard Gulseth and his wife, Lois, Wheatland, Wyoming Daughter: Carol LaFrance and her husband, Ernie, Lake Ozark, Missouri Grandchildren: Lon LaFrance, Dane (Kate) LaFrance, Troy (Anga) LaFrance, Ryan (Kate) LaFrance, Lance Gulseth, Jay Gulseth, Julie (Jeff) Ackerson and Lori Jackson. Great Grandchildren: Brett, Colin, Nathan and Alex LaFrance Pari and Kalli LaFrance Isabelle LaFrance Erin Gulseth Danielle LaFrance Jarett Ackerson He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ralph and Harold Gulseth; sisters, Myrtle Davidson, Alma Wolfe, Pearl Halvorson and Gladys Thorstad.
