Myron was born February 10, 1922, in Black Loam Township, LaMoure County, near Litchville, North Dakota. The son of Martin and Hulda (Sjulli) Sather, Myron lived in the LaMoure County community until the deaths of Mrs. Sather in 1933 and Mr. Sather one year later. In 1934, Myron came to Bisbee to live with his aunt and uncle, the Myrtle (Sjulli) and William Poppie family. He accompanied the Poppies when they moved to Hope, ND, in 1937, but returned to Bisbee two years later to live and work at the Carl and Clara Solberg farm. He graduated from Bisbee High School in 1940. After completing high school, Myron worked on the construction of a military base near Seward, Alaska, and in November, 1945, enlisted in the US Army where he served as a geographer in Japan. Myron lived and worked in the Bisbee community the remainder of his life, making his home with the Solbergs and later with the Mervin and Alice Kolberg and the Russel Kolberg families.
He was a member of the Bisbee Lutheran Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School teacher and superintendent and participated in the choirs and men’s quartet. He was a longtime officer of the Bisbee Community Credit Union and a member of the Halling-Scobba Post #129 of the Bisbee American Legion.
Myron was interested in audio-visual technology. He once built a radio and for several years had a photo lab in the basement of the farmhouse. There he developed film, printed photographs and made his own slides. With his camera and reel-to-reel tape recorder he preserved the sights and sounds of many family and community events.
'A disabling stroke in 1974 forced Myron to retire from farm work. Arthritis, in addition to vision and hearing impairments, increasingly limited his mobility. He adapted to this by becoming a faithful and frequent letter writer. He had a gift for expressing himself through his correspondence and his family and friends will remember and miss his letters.
Myron met the many challenges of his life with a trusting spirit, a quiet, yet determined will, a witty sense of humor, a grateful heart and a deep faith.
He is survived by his cousins, Marily (Poppie) Geron, of Fargo, and Robert Poppie, of Nisswa, MN, and his adopted family, Russel Kolberg and Debbie Klier, of Bisbee, and Claire (Solberg) and Bill Johnson, of Pequot Lakes, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents and half-brother, Harold Sherley.
