Edith J. Wass, 79 of Devils Lake formerly of Starkweather, ND died on Monday, June 04, 2007 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Edith will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity-Bergen Lutheran Church, Starkweather. Rev. Robert Buechler will officiate and burial will be in Trinity-Bergen Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation on Thursday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Music will be Congregational Hymns with Carol Sue Pederson, organist Serving as Casket Bearers for Edith will be Blaine Wass, Owen Wass, Craig Erickstad, Kevin Erickstad, Gary Erickstad, Jason Erickstad and Cory Wass. Edith J. Erickstad was born in Sullivan Township, Ramsey County, rural Starkweather, ND on September 14, 1927, the daughter of Arthur and Esther (Dahlstrom) Erickstad. She was reared and educated in Starkweather, graduating from Starkweather High School. She attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN for a year, taking secretarial classes. Edith was united in marriage to Chester V. Wass on October 25, 1947 at Starkweather. They established their home on the farm southeast of Starkweather where they lived, worked and raised their family. Chester died on April 10, 1995. Edith would continue to make the farm her home, most of her life moving to Devils Lake in 2005. Edith was an active member of Trinity-Bergen Lutheran Church and the WELCA, where she was very involved in the quilters circle. She was also a member of the Pioneer Daughters, Senior Citizen Center and a former member of the Rebekah Lodge. Edith loved to garden, was an avid reader, enjoyed baking, with a special talent for lefse. She also enjoyed sewing projects and shared the many quilts she made with her family and friends. But most of all, Edith was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and treasured the many good times shared with them. Edith will be forever missed and forever in our hearts. Edith is survived by her children: Sandra Wass of Minot JoAnne Hughes and her husband, Jim of Williams, Minnesota Randall Wass of Carrington, ND Grandchildren: Jeremy Hughes, Janette Hughes, Krysta Wass and Jerilyn Wass Sisters: Sylvia Moorehouse and her husband, Dean of Spokane, Washington Phyllis Arnold and her husband, Arvey of Strasburg, Colorado Brother: Clayton Erickstad and his wife, Mavis of Starkweather Many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chester; son, Lynn Wass; granddaughter, Chynna Wass; brothers, Robert and Gordon Erickstad and sister, Gloria Unger.
