Irene G. LeftBear, 76, “Wayu Waste Win” (Makes Things Good Woman) of St. Michael, ND traveled back to the spirit world on March 25, 2008 at Altru Hospital surrounded by her loving family. A Wake service will be held at the St. Michael’s Recreation Center, St. Michael on Friday, March 28, 2008 beginning at 5:00 p.m. The procession to St. Michael’s Recreation Center will leave the Wal-Mart Parking Lot on Friday at 4:00 p.m. The funeral service for Irene will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at St. Jerome’s Catholic Cemetery, Crow Hill at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Paul Ruge and Robert Hapa officiating. Serving as Casket Bearers for Irene will be her grandchildren, Blisse Thompson, Yolanda Thompson, Amaris MakesGood, LuAnna Chaske, Gilbert Longtail, Tony Chaske, Myron Harrison Sr. and Arthur Little. Honorary Bearers for Irene will be Eunice Whiteman, Marie Baker, Lillian Shaw, Doreen McKay, Annie Redfox, Sylvia BrownShield and Priscilla Cavanaugh. Irene was born in Fort Totten, ND on August 11, 1931 to Mary Woods and Gabriel McKay. She went to school at the Little Flower School in St. Michael and also in Stephan, South Dakota. Irene worked as a C.H.R. driver, a cook at the Four Winds School and also at the Fort Totten Half-way House. Some of her hobbies included: cross-stitching, beading, quilting, dancing at pow-wows and spending time with her family and friends. Irene was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had many friends and relatives who loved her dearly. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Irene is survived by her loving family: Sisters: Catherine Howard, Fort Totten and Madeline Rose Walker, Sioux City, Iowa. Brother: Floyd McKay, Fort Totten. Daughters: Florine Harrison, Germaine Thompson and Anna (Duane) Thompson all of St. Michael, ND; Selina (Jacob) Horse, Devils Lake, Marcella Thompson, St. Michael and Delphine (Troy) Thompson of Tokio. Adopted Daughter: Linda Alberts. Sons: James (Natalie) Thompson, Orem, Utah, Raymond Thompson and Gerard (Linda) Thompson both of St. Michael; Ambrose (Adele) Thompson Jr., Devils Lake and Bradley Thompson also of St. Michael; Irene had 37 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gabriel McKay and Mary Woods; grandchildren, Sampson Thompson, Tracy MakesGood, Jonathan Harrison and Sidney Thompson; sister, Teresa Lee.
