Marlene E. Jacobson, 74 , Mesa, Arizona formerly of Devils Lake, ND, entered into the next stage of her life on March 16, 2007 in Arizona. Marlene is pictured here "how we remember her most", as stated by her grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake on Friday, April 20, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Fr. Robert Pecotte will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery A reception will be held in the Parish Center immediately after the Mass and burial will follow. Music will be provided by JoDee Lagein. Marlene Ellen or “Molly” as her closest friends called her, the daughter of Frank and Lorena (Knoke) Novacek, was born on Tuesday, April 5, 1932 at the home of Mrs. Kain at 504 6th Avenue, Devils Lake. She was baptized in Nekoma, ND by Fr. Churchill and her godparents were Leo and Ann Novacek. Marlene’s father, Frank was once Sheriff of Devils Lake. Marlene was united in marriage to Gordon “Jake” Jacobson on August 4, 1953 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Fr. Koller was the minister of the sacrament and the witnesses were Balzer Kurtz and Charlotte Burt. Marlene and Jake once owned the Happy Hour Restaurant and operated both the Lake Theater and the Drive-In. They moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1967 and lived in San Bruno, California; Reno, Nevada and Mesa, Arizona. Marlene is a loved grandma, aunt, mom, wife, sister and daughter. She will rest in Devils Lake beside her husband, Jake. Marlene’s three children, Mark (52), Tom (48) and David (45) were all born in Devils Lake, now reside in Chandler, Arizona; Alameda, California and Newport, Oregon respectively. Marlene has five grandchildren. Mark married Mary in 1978 and has two daughters; Kendra (26) and Leslie (18). Tom married Patti in 1978 and has two sons; Ryan (26) and Tyler (24). Dave and Kym married in 1984 and have a son, Clayton (13). Marlene is also survived by two sisters and ten nieces and nephews on her side of the family. Janet (Duane) Olson of Devils Lake and their children, Kerry, Greg, Pam, Becky and Darcy Donna (Keith) Logsdon of Sacramento, California and their children, Lora, Ellen, Peter, Amy and Philip. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Jake and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
