Borghild Olivia Legacie

Borghild O. Legacie, 89, Devils Lake formerly of Lawton and Edmore, ND died on Saturday, June 18, 2005 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Borghild will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church, Edmore, ND. Don Reynolds, Lay Pastor will officiate and burial will be in the Lawton Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and then at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Serving as Casket Bearers will be Rod Adair, Bryce Crosby, Jared Schlenker, Donald Kuchar, Eric Deseth and Steve Miller. Music will be provided by Lori Nienhuis, Soloist and John Martinson, Organist. Borghild Olivia Olson was born on February 4, 1916, Walsh County, rural Fairdale, ND, the daughter of Emil and Marie (Erickson) Olson. She was baptized on April 16, 1916 and confirmed on June 22, 1930 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, rural Fairdale. She graduated from Nekoma High School. After high school, she worked with threshing crews in the area, mainly working in the cook car. She also helped several of the area families with household chores and cooking. On December 25, 1939 Borghild was united in marriage to Herbert Glenn Legacie at her parents’ home in Lawton with the Rev. E.A. Braaten officiating. They established their home at rural Brocket for 3 years, then moved to rural Lawton where they farmed until Herbert’s death on March 22, 1955. The family then moved into Edmore and made this their home through the years. In July of 2000, Borghild moved to Devils Lake. Borghild was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Edmore and also the Concordia Lutheran Women of the ELCA. She enjoyed reading, cooking, baking, quilting and crocheting. She especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Borghild is survived by her Son: Rev. Donald Legacie and his wife, Ruth of Beatrice, Nebraska Daughter: Diana Paulson and her husband, Allen of Jamestown, ND Grandchildren: Elizabeth (Mark) Henderson, Michelle (Edgardo) Aure, Nicole Legacie; Eric Deseth; Donald Kuchar, Jodi (Rod) Adair, Lisa (Bryce) Crosby and Debbie (Jared) Schlenker; Eight Great Grandchildren Five Step Great Grandchildren Sisters: Nettie Johnson, Gudren Adsem both of Grafton, ND Idune Frovarp, Grand Forks, ND She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert; daughter, Bonnie Kuchar on August 25, 2004; brothers, Edward Olson, Martin Olson and Gudmund Olson; sisters, Inga Hovde, Hilda Hetherington and Genevieve Vondra.
