Rosalie M. (Hobbs) Gleason, 93 of Devils Lake formerly of Park River, ND and Lewiston, Idaho died on Thursday, January 10, 2008 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake in the loving care of her family and Hospice. She had been a resident of the home for five months.
A Memorial Service for Rosalie will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake. Rev. Reuben Schnaidt will officiate and burial will be in the Park River Cemetery in the spring.
Rosalie Marie was born August 1, 1914 to Joseph and Frances (Sommer) Listopad on their farm east of Park River, ND. She was educated in Rushford School District #1 through the 8th grade. She then attended high school for business courses in East St. Louis, Illinois. After a year, she returned home to care for her ill mother, living on the family farm in rural Park River.
Rosalie married Melvin J. Hobbs on November 11, 1937, where they farmed the family farm. In 1942, Melvin was called into service where he worked in the Naval Base shipyards at Bremerton, Washington and Bangor Naval arsenal until 1949. They then moved back to the family farm August 1, 1949 where they farmed until 1964. Melvin passed away June 16, 1964. She continued living on the farm working as a cook for the Park River High School.
Rosalie moved to Lewiston, Idaho in September of 1967 where she married Joe G. Gleason in 1969. They made their home there for 36 years. Joe passed away in 2003.
Rosalie will be remembered for her love of family, friends, pets, good cooking, crocheting, cross-word puzzles and a bright mind. Always hungry for knowledge, she read and enjoyed discussions on any subject-from politics to geology. While in Lewiston, she was a head cook for the Elks Club and then managed the Country Loft Restaurant where she baked 80-100 pies every morning. She retired in 1975.
Rosalie was a member of the Episcopal Church, Altar Guild committee, a life member of the D.A.V. Auxiliary, worked for the Republican Party committee, volunteer for the Idaho State Patrol Coffee Break, providing coffee and home-made cookies to travelers. She and Joe liked to travel and made many trips across the states and Canada. She will always be remembered for her 100’s of Afghans she crocheted.
She moved back to North Dakota in July of 2003, residing in Heartland Court #4 until July of 2007.
Survivors include her son, John Hobbs and his wife, Bette of Devils Lake
Daughter, Mary Lou Blake of Tillamook, Oregon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Melvin Hobbs and Joe Gleason; brother, Joseph Listopad of Grafton, ND and sister Ann Hart of Phoenix, Oregon.
