Richard L. Abrahamson, 60 of Fargo, ND died Tuesday evening, March 13, 2007 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Richard’s Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake with Rev. Roger Leonhardt officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars. Burial will be in the Bartlett City Cemetery in the spring in the family plot.
Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
Serving as Honorary Bearers for Richard will be Gary Frederick, Roger Skadsem, Russell Wallace, Billy Decoteau, Richard Jr., Derrick Guy and Jose Guy.
Richard Leon Abrahamson, the son of Harold and Lois L. (Day) Abrahamson was born on March 25, 1946 at Devils Lake, ND. He was reared and educated in Devils Lake, graduating from Devils Lake High School in 1964. Richard moved to Houston, Texas and worked for the Houston Power Company until he enlisted in the United States Navy on April 26, 1966. He served with the Construction Battalion as a construction electrician based in Quonset Point, Rhode Island from 1966-1969 with a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1967 and also a tour of duty in Antarctica from September of 1968 to October of 1969. After completing his tour in Antarctica he transferred to the Naval Reserve and was stationed in Bainbridge, Maryland. Richard was honorably discharged on December 26, 1971 with the rank of Construction Electrician 2nd Class. After leaving the military, Richard resided in Rockville, Connecticut and worked for the Connecticut Light and Power Company for eleven years, before retiring due to health problems. Richard was married to Roberta Skorohod on September 6, 1968 and on October 4, 1974 Michael was born. Michael was Richard's pride and joy.
In the late 1980’s, Richard returned to Devils Lake. Moving to the Grand Forks area in the late 1990's, and residing for the past few years in Fargo. A special friend, Arlene Lovejoy and her family were a very special part of Richard’s life. They meant the world to him.
Richard is survived by his loving son Michael Abrahamson, and his wife Faith, of Riverside, Rhode Island.
Grandchildren: Brendan, Elizabeth, Andrew and Justin all of Riverside.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings in their infancy.
Richard was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and dear friend to all he knew. He touched their lives in a very special way and will be sadly missed by all.
