Clarence Arthur Adahl was born in DeGroat Township, Ramsey County, rural Devils Lake on July 20, 1912, the son of Joseph and Clara (Nees) Adahl. He attended the Penn School through the 8th grade and then stayed home to help on the family farm in Coulee Township. Clarence was united in marriage to Beatrice Bryn on July 22, 1939 at the Norway Lutheran Church, rural Devils Lake. They farmed in DeGroat Township and in 1948 purchased a farm in Dry Lake Township where they would live, work and raise their family through the years. The farm now has a third generation Adahl, their son, Richard as the owner and operator. In 1979, Clarence and Beatrice retired from farming and moved to Devils Lake. Beatrice died on June 29, 1999. Clarence continued to make his home in Devils Lake until April of 2005 when he moved to the Aneta Parkview Care Center.
Clarence was a lifetime member of the Elks, Eagles and Sons of Norway Lodges. He was also a member of one of the first 4-H Clubs in the county. He also served on the board of the Farmers Union Grain Elevator for many years.
Clarence was a man of great patience and ingenuity. He never hesitated to take on any type of repair challenge and frequently was called upon to modify and even sometimes invent a part or machine or whatever it took to make the job easier or just plain more efficient. Of course his talent as a welder was invaluable and was known across the county.
Clarence dedicated his life to caring for his family and in the later years, he so enjoyed every visit and especially the long drives around the countryside and his chance to share memories and stories of the “good old days”. Clarence will be forever in the hearts of his dear family and friends.
