Deborah K. (Merrick) Morsette, Anpetu Waste Win (Good Day Woman) 52, of Bremerton, Washington, formerly of Fort Totten, ND died on Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at the Harrison Memorial Hospital in Bremerton. Mass of Christian Burial for Debbie will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Fr. Paul Ruge will celebrate the Mass. Visitation will be held at St. Michael’s Recreation Center on Wednesday, April 27, 2005 beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 12:00 midnight with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 8:00 p.m. The procession to St. Michael’s Recreation Center on Wednesday will leave from the former Lake Country Auto Parking Lot at 4:00 p.m. Those serving as Pallbearers for Debbie will be Fulton Merrick Jr., Joseph Yankton, Jason LaRock, Clarence Morin, Dallas Littlewind, Clayton Rainbow and Sam Merrick. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Laverne Fox, Julie Bellisle, Sandra Miller, Joyce Bye, Carrie Jetty Redday, Rose Lebeau, Jennifer Drake, Louella Thompson, Rose Zavala, Nancy Glenn, Mike Bear, Rocky Bear, Goody Quam, Clayton and Pam Rainbow, Dallas and Lois Littlewind, Larry Greene, Doug and Arliss Lohnes, Frank and Arlene Delapaz, all the Elders of the Spirit Lake Nation and all of Debbie’s Many Friends and Family. Deborah Kaye Merrick was born on August 24, 1952 at Fort Totten, North Dakota the daughter of Frank and Pauline (LeftBear) Myrick. Debbie attended school at the Immaculata Catholic High School and Waller High School in Chicago. She returned to North Dakota with her parents and attended Warwick High School. After high school, Debbie moved to California and attended Josef’s School of Hair Design where she made her home until the early 1980’s. Debbie returned to the St. Michael area. While living in North Dakota, Debbie worked for Knutson Construction as the company’s secretary during the entire construction of the Four Winds High School. She also worked for Spirit Lake Tribal Social Services for several years. In the late 1980’s Debbie moved to Washington where she continued to make her home at the time of her death. While living in Washington, Debbie owned and operated her own cleaning service until illness forced her to retire. Debbie married Cordell Morsette, Sr. in 1985. In Debbie’s younger years, she was chosen Miss Indian Chicago and held that title for one year. She also worked at the Sun Times, various department stores and for Boys Club of Chicago. She also loved sports and won several ribbons for swimming and participated in softball and volleyball. Debbie is survived by her Parents: Frank and Pauline Myrick, St. Michael, ND Children: Michelle Thumb, Bismarck Scott (Meada) Jetty, St. Michael Crystal (Benjamin) Urquieta Memary LaRock Cordell Morsette, Jr. all of Washington Tiffany (Adrian) Alexander, San Diego, California Mariah Morsette, Washington Seventeen Grandchildren Sisters: Brenda (Andrew) Morin Sr., St. Michael Cathy (James) Yankton, Jr. Fort Totten Many Nieces, Nephews and Cousins Preceded in death by her brother, Fulton Merrick Sr., grandsons, Christian LaRock and Derrick Lee Jr.; grandparents, Simon and Sarah Left Bear and Joseph and Emma Merrick; aunt, Evelyn Young; uncle, Jonah Left Bear.
