Catherine was born on February 25, 1915, the daughter of Robert and Helen (Jetty) Cavanaugh at Sheyenne, North Dakota where she was raised. She attended Boarding School and Day School at Fort Totten. Catherine moved to Oregon where she made her home for 31 years and worked in the ship yards during World War II.
Catherine was united in marriage to Frank MacDonald in December of 1945 in Jamestown, ND. They established their home in Oregon where they lived, worked and raised their family. Mr. MacDonald died in 1976. After Frank’s death, Catherine returned to North Dakota where she has since made her home. In 2002 she moved to Skyview Apartments and most recently was living in the Fremont Apartments with her daughter. After returning to North Dakota, Catherine cooked for the Senior Meals Program in St. Michael for 10 years.
Catherine was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and was a Gold Star Mother.
One of Catherine’s favorite pastimes was playing Bingo. In her younger years she enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. There are many things we will miss about Catherine, especially her sense of humor, her soft and tender heart and her loving and caring ways.
May Catherine rest in peace.
