Evabelle Christie

Evabelle Christie, formerly of Devils Lake, ND died on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at the Stevens Point, Wisconsin Care Center at age 100. Funeral Services for Evabelle will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Marvin Winstryg will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Serving as Honorary Bearers will be Evabelle’s Nephews, Richard Mahoney, Wayne Halle, Gary Halle, Don Halle and Dale Halle. Music will be Congregational Hymns with Lynda Pearson as organist. Evabelle was born on November 10, 1906 in Sweetwater Township, rural Devils Lake, the daughter of Albert and Lillie (Delaney) Halle. She was raised and educated in the Devils Lake area, attending school in Devils Lake. Evabelle was united in marriage to Leslie James Christie on July 22, 1935 in Devils Lake. They established their home in Devils Lake where they lived, worked and raised their family through the years. Evabelle was employed at Christie’s Grocery Store and Meat Market for 25 years, retiring in 1971. Mr. Christie died on March 17, 1983. Evabelle continued to make her home in Devils Lake until January of 2001, when she moved to the Stevens Point Care Center. Evabelle was a member of First United Methodist Church for many years. Evabelle enjoyed cooking, playing cards, reading, embroidery, crocheting and the pure beauty of nature. But her greatest enjoyment came from time spent with her family and grandchildren. Evabelle is survived by her children: Bonnie Jean Clark of Fort Worth, Texas Gerald “Jerry” Christie and his wife, Susan of Naperville, Illinois Darrell Christie and his wife, Phyllis of Plover, Wisconsin Grandchildren: Christie (Wayne) Tomlinson, Joseph (Kristi) Clark; Douglas (Grace) Christie, Jill (Sten) Ostrem; Paul (Andrea) Christie, Joel (Angela) Christie, Kyle (Nancy) Christie; Lori Murphy. Thirteen Great Grandchildren Five Great Great Grandchildren Sister: Gladys (Albie) Clint of Onalaska, Washington Sister-In-Law: Delphia Halle of Devils Lake Many Nieces, Nephews, Grand Nieces and Grand Nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie; daughter, Patricia Christie Murphy; son-in-law, Jack Clark; daughter-in-law, Barbara Christie; brothers, Willard Halle and Cecil Halle; sisters, Alice Steigemann, Ethel Lindsay, Dorothy Hellickson, Mildred Blankenship and Ruth Mahoney.
