Clifford Freeman was born on June 21, 1916 to Edward and Minnie (Lugar) Tabert in Henderson Township, Cavalier County, ND. At a very young age, he and his parents moved one half mile to the present Tabert farm. He attended school in Munich. In 1933, after his father was killed in an accident he started farming at the tender age of 17. No matter where he traveled through out his life, he was always happy to get back home to Munich where he said “That’s where the good land starts.” He was tied to the land his entire life, working and seeding the farm for 70 years. Clifford was united in marriage to Doreen E. Wruck on October 19, 1946 at her parents’ home in Huron Township. They built a home in Munich and resided there since 1985.
Clifford was a life long member of Zion Lutheran Church and a member of the board of trustees for many years. Even when it was difficult for him to walk, he would take his walker and walk to church.
He enjoyed traveling, fishing, working in his basement workshop and in his garden and yard. One of his last workshop projects was building 15 garden benches and giving them away to friends and neighbors. But as busy a life as he led, his first interest was always his family. He enjoyed his grandchildren, especially showing them how to do things.
He is survived by Doreen, his wife of sixty years; two sons, Steven and his wife, Patricia of Asbury, New Jersey; Zane and his wife, Beth of Munich, ND and one daughter, Holly Shirek and her husband, Galen of Yardley, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Shawna Tabert, Paula Tabert, Benjamin Tabert, Drew Tabert and James Tabert; brother, Leonard Tabert of Mesa, Arizona and sister, Rose Regauld of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Many Nieces, Nephews, Grand Nieces and Grand Nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Ian Tabert; brothers-in-law, Henry Regauld, Max Hanggi, Thomas Glock and Carless Meredith and sister-in-law, Genevieve Meredith.
