Dorothy A. Naugle, 84 of Brookfield, Wisconsin formerly of Denver, Colorado and Devils Lake, ND died on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at the Brookfield Nursing Home. A Graveside Service for Dorothy will be held at the Devils Lake Cemetery on Monday, March 24, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Harold Ovre, Pastor of St. Olaf Lutheran Church officiating. Dorothy Alice Naugle was born on April 27, 1923 at Grand Forks, ND the daughter of Heerman J. and Myrtle T. (Thompson) Naugle. She was also the great granddaughter of Captain E.E. Heerman,, the designer, engineer and captain of the Minnie H. She was reared and educated in Devils Lake, graduating from Devils Lake Central High School in 1941. She attended UND, Grand Forks and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta and elected to Sigma Epsilon Sigma Honorary Societies. She graduated from the Henry Ford Hospital of Nursing and Hygiene, Detroit, Michigan in 1946 Dorothy then obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree with High Distinction in 1953 and a Master of Nursing Administration Degree in 1961, both from the University of Minnesota School of Nursing. While there, she was elected to Sigma Theta Tau Honorary Society, an honorary nursing fraternity. Dorothy had a variety of staff nurse experiences at the Henry Ford Hospital, Veterans Administration Hospital in Los Angeles, California, University of Minnesota Hospitals, Minneapolis General Hospital and the Veterans Administration Hospital in Minneapolis. While with the Veterans Administration, Dorothy held Head Nurse and Supervisory positions and was selected for a one year Chief Nursing Service Trainee Program at the VA Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. Following this, Dorothy was assigned as Chief of Nursing Service at the VA Hospitals in Portland, Oregon, Albany, New York and Denver, Colorado. While in Denver, she also held the position of Senior Clinical Instructor at the University of Colorado School of Nursing. Since 1972, Dorothy had made Denver her home moving to Wisconsin just a few years ago. Dorothy was honored in the 1975 Centennial Edition of Who’s Who of Colorado; was listed in Who’s Who of America in 1978-1979; and Who’s Who in the West in 1978-1979 and 1980-1981. Dorothy is survived by several cousins.
