Theodore “Ted” E. Thoreson, 91 of Devils Lake formerly of Grand Forks, ND died on Monday, May 2, 2005 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Ted will be held on Friday, May 6, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Harold Ovre will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday, May 5, 2005 from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 5:30 p.m. Visitation on Friday will be at the church one hour prior to services. The Staff of the Good Samaritan Center will serve as Honorary Pallbearers Active Pallbearers will be Ted’s Grandchildren: Amy and Kevin Mastrud, Erika and Jason Patzer, Chris and Sandra Svedberg, Betsy and Brett Dalton, Rochelle and Paul Jackson, and Becky Cummings. Music will be cared for by: Jamie Travers, Soloist and Lynda Pearson, Organist Theodore Edward Thoreson was born on February 14, 1914 in Ramsey County, Devils Lake, ND, the son of Nels and Alice (Peterson) Thoreson. He attended Central School in Devils Lake and then worked for the Civilian Conservation Corp. in Lost Corners, Arkansas. He returned to North Dakota and worked as an automobile mechanic for Lake Chevrolet for 30 years. On June 17, 1944, Ted was united in marriage to Muriel Sofia Anderson at Sheyenne, ND. They established their home in Devils Lake. In 1968 they moved to Grand Forks where Ted continued his work as an auto mechanic at Rydell’s and in the later years also worked as a cab driver. In 1993, Ted retired and they moved back to Devils Lake. In September of 2002, Ted moved to the Good Samaritan Center. Ted loved working on cars. He also enjoyed tinkering with bikes and lawn mowers. After Ted retired, he and Muriel enjoyed traveling and were able to visit both coasts and many places in between. Ted always considered the time spent with Muriel, his children and grandchildren as the most precious and he will be greatly missed by those who called him husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and dear friend. Ted is survived by his wife of 60 years, Muriel Children: Darlene Svedberg and her husband, Arlo, Devils Lake Diane Alexander and her husband, Robert, Tammassee, South Carolina Bradley Thoreson, Tulsa, Oklahoma Grandchildren and their spouses: Amy and Kevin Mastrud Erika and Jason Patzer Chris and Sandra Svedberg Betsy and Brett Dalton Katie Alexander Rochelle and Paul Jackson Rebecca and Jason Cummings Great Grandchildren: Breanna, Austin and Sierra Mastrud Brady Patzer Elizabeth and Madison Svedberg Jane Dalton Champagne Jackson Gabriel and Taylor Cummings Sisters: Cora Peterson, Albany, Oregon Martha Cook, Newport, Oregon Ethel Alsbury, Salem, Oregon Many Nieces and Nephews Two Cousins in Devils Lake and Numerous Cousins in Norway also survive He was preceded in death by his sister, Anna Price; brother, Nels Thoreson; daughter-in-law, Kathy (Kadlec) Thoreson and nephews, Louis Cook Jr, Nels Thoreson, Jr. and Kent Peterson.
