Gary F. Gewont, 58, Devils Lake, ND died Sunday, May 8, 2005 at home in Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Gary will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the River of Life Chapel, Assembly of God Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Paul Durbin will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation for Gary will be at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Family Service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation on Thursday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Serving as Pallbearers will be: Gerald Spaeth,Gary Hillerud, Greg Schell, Daniel Boehn, Larry Berger and Joe Mosser Honorary Pallbearers will be: Steve Kirchgesler, Jon Jensen, Gary Verville and Don Summers. Music will be provided by: ROL Choir, Rick Neukom, Paul Durbin, Patty Durbin, Kami Sanders, Nolan Sanders, Josh Gunderson, Ken Mosser, Grayson Mosser and Preston Mosser Gary Franklin Gewont was born December 18, 1946 in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin, the only child of Frank and Betty (Hand) Gewont. Gary grew up in Oconto Falls and graduated from Oconto Falls High School in 1965. From there, Gary spent four years in the Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam conflict. After an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, Gary returned to Wisconsin where he worked as a tool designer for Badger Piston Company. In 1972, Gary joined the Air Force and was assigned to Minot Air Base, ND. It was in Minot that he met his wife, Kathy Mosser, and they were married April 6, 1977. Gary’s Air Force career took him to Minot Air Base; NATO Headquarters in Izmir, Turkey; Clark Air Base in the Philippines; and Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas. After retiring from the Air Force in 1992, Gary worked as Head Custodian at Sawyer School. In 1996, the Gewonts moved to Devils Lake, ND, where Gary worked for Minnie H Center, Noodles by Leonardo, and Service Master. Gary also developed and operated an appliance repair business known as the House Doctor between 1996 and 2005. All those who knew Gary were impressed by his dedication and loyalty, sense of honor and faithfulness, and were touched by his humor, encouragement and compassion. He instilled a sense of hope, determination, courage and initiative to follow one’s dreams, and enjoy the process. He will be greatly missed. Gary is survived by his wife of 28 years, Kathy Daughters, Tryce Gewont, Minneapolis, Minnesota Asya Gewont, Devils Lake Mother, Betty Gewont, Oconto Falls, Wisconsin Gary was preceded in death by his father, Frank Gewont.
