Richard J. Reiger, 67 of South St. Paul, Minnesota formerly of Devils Lake, ND died on Saturday evening, December 29, 2007 at his home in the loving care of his family and Hospice.
Mass of Christian Burial for Richard will be on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. Robert Pecotte will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 6:00 p.m. Visitation on Wednesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Richard will be George Reiger, Larry McPeek, Kevin Wilhelmi and sons, Richard Reiger, Curtis Reiger and Joseph Reiger
Richard James Reiger was born on February 26, 1940 at Devils Lake, ND the son of Joseph and Cecelia (Schafer) Reiger. He was reared and educated in Devils Lake, attending St. Mary’s Academy. He served for a time with the North Dakota National Guard. Richard was united in marriage to Maryann Svercl on November 25, 1961 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. They lived in Devils Lake for a year, then established their home in South St. Paul where they have lived, worked and raised their family through the years. Richard has worked as a painter in several different places and most recently was employed at Fairview Riverside Hospital.
Richard enjoyed photography, archery, drawing and painting. But his greatest love was spending time with his dear family and many friends.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Maryann of South St. Paul

Grandchildren: Jamilyn, Tyler, Janamarie, , Natasha, Kelsie, Nicholas, Laura and Samantha
Great Grandchildren: Dominyck, Ethan and soon to be born, Charlie Junior “CJ”
Brothers: Wendelin “Wendy” Reiger and his wife, Darlyne of Devils Lake
Walter Reiger and his wife, Carolyn of of Yuma, AZ
George Reiger and his wife, LaVerne of Denver, CO
Sisters: Elsie Berge of Seattle, Washington
Katherine Birkholz and her husband, Gordon of Bismarck, ND
Many nieces, nephews and their families also survive.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael and sister, Genevieve.
