Robert “Bobby G” Gunderson, 66 of Devils Lake formerly of Williston, ND died on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
The life of Robert E. “Bobby G” Gunderson will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Rev. Jamie Desai officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Lake Region Honor Guard, Camp Grafton.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Bob was born May 8, 1941, to LeRoy and Margaret (Skattebo) Gunderson in Estherville, Iowa. He attended school in Estherville and began a life-long career in radio broadcasting during high school in Boone, Iowa where he graduated in 1959. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in the early sixties and was deployed to Vietnam and the Philippines where he worked as a translator of Chinese Mandarin. Upon his discharge, he worked for a time in sales and retail, but he ultimately returned to broadcasting, the profession he loved, where he developed his on-air personality, Bobby G. He was a well-known radio personality in the Williston area before moving to Devils Lake and beginning his long term at KDVL-FM. He married Dianne (Moe) Strong of Devils Lake in July 1995. In the fall of 2005, Bob quietly and courageously began his long battle with esophageal cancer. In spite of his health problems, he continued to work until October 2007.

Brother: Douglas Gunderson and his wife, Sandy of Williston
Several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his father, LeRoy; sister, Sandra Ackerman and several aunts and uncles.
Bob was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, the VFW, Elks, Shriners and Masons. He was an avid reader and had a special interest in Civil War history. He enjoyed golf and had a large circle of friends with whom he spent many happy times. Bobby G will be greatly missed by his family, his friends and his listening public.
