Margaret "Peggy" Held

Margaret “Peggy” Held, 80 of Devils Lake, formerly of Rocklake, ND died on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Margaret will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Devils Lake with Rev. Marvin Winstryg officiating. Graveside services for Margaret will be held on Monday, September 3, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bisbee Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Saturday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Margaret’s grandchildren will serve as Casket Bearers Honorary Bearers will be: Beth and Gordon Berg, Ruth and Leo Swanson, Norine and Lowell Lussenden, Anna and Wayne Schwandt, Delores and Frank Johanson, Helen Foughty and Bettymae Rollings. Music will be provided by Donovan Foughty, soloist and JoDee Lagein, organist Margaret I. Birnie was born on December 17, 1926 at Rocklake, ND the daughter of John and Lily (Scott) Birnie. She was reared and educated in Rock Lake, graduating from Rock Lake High School in 1945. She moved to Fargo where she worked and attended business college. On August 29, 1947, Peggy was united in marriage to Fred H. Held at Rocklake. They established their home on the farm in the Rocklake area until 1963 when they moved to Devils Lake. Peggy began working in the Produce Department of Leever’s Super Value, working there for over 25 years, retiring in 1989. Fred died on November 8, 1998. Margaret was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Miriam Circle. Margaret was an exceptional cook and baker and what joy it brought her to share the fruits of her labor with family and friends. In their younger years, Fred and Peggy enjoyed camping and fishing and in these later years, afternoon tea with her dear friends was a favorite pastime. Margaret was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend and will be forever missed but her memory will be forever in our hearts. She is survived by her children: Don Held of Mukilteo, Washington Yvonne Kearns of Seoul, Korea Daron Held of Minot, ND Kristi Berg and her husband, Arne of Starkweather, ND John Held of Concord, California Grandchildren: Chad Held, Ronda (Erik) Hasko, Taska Held, Danika Held, Makesha Held, Kyler Held, Shauna (Greg) Berg-Darling, Travis Berg, Jeff Kearns, Jackie Triplett and Jodi Wright. Great Grandchildren: McKenzie Darling, Brooke Darling, Cole Darling, Jonah Hasko, Oliver Hasko, Trenton Held, Mataya Held, James Kearns, Stephanie Wychunas, Jessie Kearns and Kaitlyn Wychunas.
