Alvin was united in marriage to Pearl Harding on September 10, 1943 in New Rockford, ND. They established their home on the farm north of Hamar where they lived, worked and raised their family then moving to Devils Lake in 1969. While living in Devils Lake, Alvin worked for a time as a rural mail carrier and also worked at Lake Region State College and the North Dakota School for the Deaf, retiring in 1986. They continued to make their home in Devils Lake and in 2003, Alvin moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Devils Lake and then in 2005 he moved to the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd. Alvin was a member of the Sigdal Lutheran Church where he served on the church board and also served on the Minco Township Board.
Alvin worked hard to provide for his family but also enjoyed several hobbies and pastimes including softball, playing cards and horse shoes and a fun game of billiards.
