Darrell P. Forest, 61 of Warwick, ND died on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.
Funeral Services for Darrell will be held on Monday, April 30, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Warwick Public School with Rev. David Nichols officiating. Burial will be in the Warwick Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the National Guard Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Monday will be at the school one hour prior to the funeral service.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Darrell will be Craig Estenson, Hal Estenson, Annie Howard, Paul Kraft, Harold Schumacker, Randy Delgaty, Darryl Horn and Jack Forsyth.
Music will be provided by Luana Buckmeier, pianist; Dorthea Nelson, Bagpiper; Darlene Quam, soloist
Darrell Patrick was born on September 28, 1945 at Langdon, ND the son of William and Agnes (Swenson) Forest. He attended Gray Township School, Langdon and graduated from the Crookston Ag School in 1963. He moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba and attended Barber School and then returned to North Dakota and was as a barber in Ellendale for 2 years. Darrell then attended Lake Region State College and graduated with an Associates Degree in 1966. In June of 1967, Darrell entered the United States Army and served his country in Vietnam as an infantry man with the First Air Cavalry. He received the Air Medal and was the recipient of the Purple Heart for injuries sustained while in battle. In June of 1969, he was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist 4th Class. Darrell married Valerie Blazer on July 24, 1970 in Devils Lake. They had two children, Bill and Nicole. Darrell owned and operated in partnership “The Bottle Shop Bar” for nine years.
On February 24, 1981, Darrell married Nanette Walter. They purchased the bar in Warwick, known as “Darrell’s Bar” and have continued as owners for over 26 years.
Darrell was a member of the VFW, Elks and Eagles Lodges, American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the Manitoba and American Clydesdale Club.
Warwick was “home” for Darrell and he served as the Warwick Mayor for 20 years. He cared for the people and the town of Warwick as he cared for his family.
Darrell’s passion was Clydesdale horses. He was knowledgeable about all aspects of the breed and took pride in breeding his own horses. The horses did win many titles and awards as they were on the show circuit in the United States and Canada. This passion was shared by the entire family.Many of the people they met at the shows became life long friends.
Darrell also had a passion for people and building friendships that would last a life time and help him through the hard times. Darrell will be forever loved, forever missed and forever in our hearts.

Brothers: Ken Forest and his wife, Kris of Wales, ND
Rich Forest and his wife, Pat of Pelican Lake, Minnesota
Special Family Member: Alana Bergstrom
Uncle: Orin (Doretta) Swenson
Aunts: Donna (Donald) Kirby, Bonnie Swenson, Betty Swenson, Dorothy Swenson and Ardis Forest.
Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
