Frank Harry Herda

Frank H. Herda, 89 of Devils Lake, ND died on Thursday, March 15, 2007 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake. Mass of Christian Burial for Frank will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake on Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at 10:00 a.m Fr. C.F. Wilhelm will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with Rosary and Scripture Service at 6:30 p.m. The Rosary will be led by the Knights of Columbus. Visitation on Tuesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Serving as Casket Bearers for Frank will be Dave Ewing, Keith Olson, Kyle Herda, Don Herda, Paul Kitsch and Scott Bischoff. Reading the Scriptures will be Nicole Herda Gift Bearers will be Melissa, Angie, Nicole and Alexandra. Music will be provided by JoDee Lagein, organist and Kevin Regan, soloist. Altar Servers will be Michael Bischoff, Nathan Mertens, Becca Lagein and Hunter Cichos Frank Harry Herda was born January 12, 1918 in Walsh County, to Joseph F. and Albina Mary (Bina) Herda. He attended Hope School, Nixon Township, southeast of Southam, ND. Frank was united in marriage to Kathryn Thompson on June 14, 1938 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Frank and Kay worked on the Ben Bert farm near Southam when they were first married. They later moved to Devils Lake where Frank worked for the Great Northern Railroad on the bridge and building crew for seven years. In September of 1945, Frank started working for Otter Tail Power Company as a mechanic, retiring in 1975. Frank and Kay had also purchased the Harry Van Lou farm in 1948 which Frank continued to farm until 1993. Frank was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and life member of the Knights of Columbus. Frank was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved his family. He had a true passion for family, farming and fishing. Frank is survived by his wife of 68 years, Kathryn Children: Mavis (Bob) Olson, Coon Rapids, MN Delores (Greg) Backus, Uintah, Utah Richard (Les) Herda, Douglas, Wyoming Jim (Fiance, Sally) Herda, Devils Lake Grandchildren: Kristen (Dave) Ewing Keith (Nancy) Olson Melissa (Paul) Kitsch Angela (Scott) Herda-Bischoff Kyle (Nicole) Herda Eight Great Grandchildren: Alexandra, Nicole, Samuel, Christopher, Michael, Mikayla, Madison and Haley. Sisters: Albina Evenson, Minneapolis, MN Margaret Evenson, Park River, ND Brothers: Floyd (Betty) Herda, Devils Lake Joe (Ilene) Herda, Iowa Many Nieces and Nephews also survive. Preceded in death by parents, Joseph Herda and Albina Herda-Miller; daughter, Charlotte Mary Herda in 1955; sister, Florence Peterson and brother, John Herda;
