Joyce M. Schwab, 73 of Devils Lake formerly of the Edmore/Brocket area and Lakota, ND died on Thursday evening at Heartland Care Center after a courageous four year battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family.
Mass of Christian Burial for Joyce will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. C.F. Wilhelm will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. The Rosary will be led by Dennis Schwab.
Visitation on Wednesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Joyce will be Travis Schwab, Jason Schwab, Scott Schwab, Timber Schwab, Duane Brandvold and Jon Becker.
Joyce Marie Walden, the daughter of Olvin and Inga (Olson) Walden was born on December 5, 1932 at Edmore, ND. She was reared in the Edmore/Brocket area and attended Lakota Public School. She worked for a time as a waitress at the Lakota Hotel. On July 21, 1956 Joyce was united in marriage to Herman Schwab at St. Joseph Catholic Church. They established their home in Devils Lake, then moved to Grand Forks for a year and then to Langdon for two years. They returned to Devils Lake where they lived, worked and raised their family. Joyce worked at the Leever’s Lunch Counter for a time and then worked in Food Service at the North Dakota School for the Deaf for sixteen years, retiring in 1995.
Joyce was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Altar Society and St. Theresa Circle.
Joyce was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She counted each member of her wonderful family and many dear friends as true blessings from God. She will be so truly missed and may she rest in God’s peace.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Olvin and Inga Walden; Father-In-Law and Mother-In-Law, Sebastian and Eva Schwab; nephew, Galen Sateran and brothers-in-law, Ed Ritteman and Allan Schwab.
