Pastor Don Reynolds will officiate and burial will be in the Edmore Cemetery in the spring. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Saturday, February 16, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and on Sunday at the church one hour prior to the service. Music will be provided by Edval Helle Jr., soloist and John Martinson, organist. Violet was born in Pearl City, IL on August 23, 1918, the daughter of Harry & Nellie (Ferrand) Staver. On October 6, 1946, she married Martin Sobak, who passed away on September 10, 1993. She was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church and VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She loved to read and paint prior to her eye site getting bad. Violet loved to come out to California. She came out every year for Christmas and would stay for 3 to 4 months. She did this for the last 32 years. She liked playing bunco and card games. She liked to watch (listen) to the Price is Right, Lawrence Welk, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, listen to talk radio with Dr Laura and enjoyed listening to music. Most of all she treasured the time spent with her grandson and family. She always wanted Barbara by her side to guide her the last few years. Violet Sobak is survived by a son, Gary Sobak and his wife, Barbara of Salinas, CA. daughter, Linda Wells and her husband, David of Lady Lake, FL. Beloved grandson, Chris Sobak of Gilbert, Arizona. Sisters, Viola Besaw of Primghar, IA and Norma Buske of Onawa, IA, her brother, Royal Staver of Owatonna, MN, several nieces and nephews and their families also survive. Besides her husband, Violet Sobak was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Eldon, Doran and Paul Staver. We rejoice that Violet is in Heaven; united with our Lord Jesus. A Special Thank you to those who cared for her at the Edmore Rest Home and Good Samaritan Home in Devils Lake. Memorials may be directed to the Edmore Rest Home in Memory of Violet Sobak at 301 E. 4th Ave., Edmore, ND 58330.
