Margaret E. Peterson, 90 of Devils Lake formerly of Turtle Lake, ND died on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Margaret will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Devils Lake on Monday, February 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Jamie Desai will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Serving as Casket Bearers for Margaret will be her grandchildren Honorary Bearers are the “Quilters” from Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Margaret, the daughter of Carl and Amanda (Anderson) Field was born on June 15, 1918 at Turtle Lake, ND where she was reared and educated, graduating from Turtle Lake High School in the class of 1936. She attended Capitol Commercial College in Bismarck and after graduating she held several job positions in the Washburn/Bismarck area. Margaret was united in marriage to Melvin O. Peterson on June 1, 1941 at Bismarck. They lived on the family ranch in Mercer County, near Golden Valley until 1945 when they moved to Carrington. In 1948 they moved to Devils Lake where they lived, worked and raised their family through the years. They retired in 1977 and spent the winter months in Edinburg, Texas. They also traveled throughout the United States and to other countries. Melvin died on October 2, 1995. Margaret continued to live in Devils Lake in the summer months and winter in Edinburg for many years. Margaret was a Farmers Union Youth Leader for many years, served as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader, member of the Town and Country Club, Sons of Norway and was a very active charter member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, the Quilters and was very community minded serving on several community boards. In Edinburg, Margaret was very active in the various activities of the Orange Grove RV Park. She enjoyed golfing, reading, sewing, gardening, especially tending to her many beautiful flowers. Margaret was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and we will cherish her memory forever. Margaret is survived by her loving family; Sons and Daughter-In-Law: Darwin and Joyce Peterson, Devils Lake and Ron Peterson, Jacksonville, Florida; Daughter and Son-In-Law: Candace and Mike Hesch, Wausau, Wisconsin Seven Grandchildren: Deb (Darren) Heisler, West Fargo; Darci (Brian) Trenda, Mandan; Douglas (Jennifer) Peterson, Highlands Ranch, Colorado; Lisa (David) Martinelli, Jacksonville;Brian (Leah) Peterson also of Jacksonville; Jason (Elisa) Hesch, Minocqua, Wisconsin and Jennifer Hesch, Wausau; Twelve Great Grandchildren: Taylor, Nicolle, Kyllie Trenda; Justin, Andrew, Brady Heisler; Brooke, Lauren, Gianna Martinelli; Noelle and Trigg Peterson; Braelen Hesch; Many nieces, nephews and their families also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin; son, Keith; daughter-in-law, Marlys “Chris” Peterson; brothers, Arlie, Ernest, Chester, Bill and Morris Field and sister, Marion Levi.
