Esther Marie Berg

Esther M. Berg, 85 of Devils Lake formerly of Egeland and Starkweather, ND died early Thursday, November 24, 2005 at the Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Esther will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2005 at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Justin Schmidt will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Friday, November 25, 2005 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Esther Marie Augustson was born on September 6, 1920 at Crocus, ND the daughter of Carl Victor and Elina Guro (Markrid) Augustson. She was educated at Egeland, graduating from Egeland High School as Salutatorian in the class of 1939. On December 4, 1941, Esther was united in marriage to Alfred J. Berg at Devils Lake. They established their home on the farm at Starkweather, later farming at Egeland and eventually Alfred went into the meat cutting business. They lived for a time at Cando, Devils Lake, Fertile, Minnesota, Hillsboro, Mayville and Aneta. In 1972 they moved to Devils Lake where they lived through the years. While living in Starkweather, Esther worked at Quick’s Fairway and after moving to Devils Lake she worked at Leever’s Super Value, Mercy Hospital and the Good Samaritan Center and volunteered at the Heartland Care Center. She also worked for several families as a housekeeper. She worked hard on the farm as a young girl and as a wife and mother. She devoted her life to caring for her husband and family. Alfred died on April 2, 1987. She is survived by her children: Alpha Lang and her husband, Eugene of Devils Lake, ND Yvonne Shear and her husband, Brian of Ft. Collins, CO Roger Berg and his wife, Veanna of Marshall, MN Bruce Berg and his wife, Kathy of Devils Lake, ND Terry Berg and his wife, Vicki of Tucson, AZ Eline Kirchoffner and her husband, Jim of Tucson, AZ Marcia Kraft and her husband, Jim of St. Michael, ND Evan Berg and his wife, Diane of Devils Lake, ND Kevin Berg and his wife, Missy of Winslow, AZ Twenty-Five Grandchildren: Todd (Shannon), Troy (Geralyn), Trinity, Steve (Lisa), Randy (Heather), DeAnna (Shawn), Jeffrey (Amanda), Michael (Nicole), Mark, Brent, Jessica, Tabetha (Robert), Kristine, James Jr., Jason (Dani), JoAnne(Casey), Jeremy, Josh, Ariana, Erika, Stacey, Chris, Jacob, Shane (Corey) and Shawn (Joann) Thirty-One Great Grandchildren: Christopher, Cassandra, Chelsey, Landon, Jacob, Jenna, Luke, John, Seth, Matthew, Justin, Meghan, Caitria, Seanan, Grace, Anders, Matthias, Soren, Amanda, Kalob, Josh, Alexandria, Brooklynn, Caitlynn, Anthony, Antonio James, Nicolas Christiano, Phillip, Vivianna, Logan and Brendon.
