Homer E. Romine, 80 of Devils Lake, ND died on Wednesday morning, September 23, 2009 at his home in the loving care of his children and Mercy Hospice. Funeral Services for Homer will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Devils Lake. Rev. David L. Birkeland will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. The Lake Region Flag Corp will provide honors for Homer, a member of the KEM Temple and Lake Region Shrine Club since 1979. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Friday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Saturday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Serving as Casket Bearers for Homer will be I.F. “Izzy” LaFleur, Alex Dettling, Jim Hunt, Dean Hovern, Darren Briss and Don Froelich. Music will be provided by Sherry Kurtz and Steve Boone, organist Homer Eugene, the son of Eugene and Hilma (Ellertson) Romine was born on January 28, 1929 at Rugby, ND where he was reared and educated, graduating from Rugby High School with the class of 1946. Homer was united in marriage to Doris M. Argabright on August 27, 1950 in Rugby. They established their home in Rolla, ND. He worked for Otter Tail Power Company for 20 years, living in Lansford, Bottineau, Fergus Falls and Devils Lake. In 1974, he began as a salesman for Schwan Wholesale and worked there until retirement. Over the years, he truly enjoyed the many people he met and friends he made throughout the region. Homer was a member of the Elks Lodge and an active member of the Masonic Lodge and KEM Shrine holding several offices including president of the Uniformed Units Council for KEM Temple, president of the Lake Region Shrine Club and president of the Lake Region Flag Corp. He served as a liaison for patient referrals in the Lake Region area to the Shriner's Hospital. He was Shriner of the Year in 2008. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church and served on the Board of Trustees. Homer gave generously of his time and talent. He was a salesman extraordinaire when it came to selling raffle tickets for a worthy cause. He loved to sit back and relax, playing his guitar for friends and family, singing those songs of the good old days. But he never missed an opportunity to spend time with his dear family and many friends. Homer is survived by his children: Becky and her husband, Rick Durbin of Devils Lake; Susan and her husband, Brian Uhlenkamp of Rochester, MN; Lyle Romine and his wife, Terrie of Fargo, ND; E. Todd Romine and his wife, Tami also of Devils Lake; Nine Grandchildren: Matt (Anne) Durbin, Trisha (Ben) Adamson, Heather (Brock) Libby, Chris Durbin; Elizabeth Uhlenkamp, Noah Uhlenkamp; Jesse (Anita) Romine; Jared Garcia, Jordan Garcia; Six Great Grandchildren: Holly, Collin, Anna, Lauren, Cameron and Cooper; Sisters: June and her husband, Allen Gilleshammer, Grafton, ND and Lyla and her husband, Ralph Crowe, Seattle, Washington; Brothers: Rod Romine and his wife, Gladys “Toots”, Minot, Jerome Romine and his wife, Sandra also of Minot and Clark Romine and his wife, Pam, Richland, Washington; Many nieces, nephews and their families also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris on July 3, 2005; grandson, Dane Garcia and brother, Perry Lyle Romine.
