Floretta Evelyn Newgard

Floretta E. Newgard, 86 a lifelong resident of Edmore, ND died on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Floretta will be held on Monday, August 29, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the Concordia Lutheran Church, Edmore, ND. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Sunday, August 28, 2005 from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service beginning a 5:00 p.m. Visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery, rural Lawton, ND. Floretta Evelyn Wright was born on April 28, 1919 in Cato Township, rural Lawton, ND, the daughter of Henry G. and Marie (McMillan) Wright. She was reared and educated in the Cato Township, graduating from Edmore High School in 1937. On December 17, 1939 she was united in marriage to Thilford Newgard in Edmore. After their marriage they made their home in the Edmore area where they farmed until their retirement. They were blessed with three children; Margaret, Douglas and Dale. Thilford died on October 24, 1994. Floretta was active in the Concordia Lutheran Church, the Edmore community, and enjoyed volunteering her time to help others. She served as the President of the American Lutheran Church Women, was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, charter member of the Edmore Historical Society Board, homemakers club, served as the Ramsey County Cancer Chairman, member of the Edmore Memorial Rest Home Guild, 4H Leader, band mother and also taught Sunday School for a number of years. Floretta is survived by Daughter; Margaret Bogar of Chehalis, WA Sons and Daughters-In-Law; Douglas and Sandi Newgard of Edmore, ND Dale and Geri Newgard of Edmore, ND Seven Grandchildren; Rebecca Kier and husband Dirk of Centralia, WA, Jacqueline Pruett of Chehalis, WA, Brent Newgard of Edmore, Jodi Rerick and husband Mike of Fargo, ND, Lisa Sproule and husband Mike of Grand Forks, ND, Amy Heilman and husband Todd of Devils Lake, ND, and Sarah Newgard of Grand Forks Nine Great Grandchildren; Jessica Barth, Emily Kier, Kimberly Pruett, Andrew McNew, Easton Rerick, Spencer and Carter Sproule, Abby and Ben Heilman One Great-Great Granddaughter; Penelope Jean Barth Sister; Myrtle Ann Hoffman of Longview, WA Brother; Henry Glen Wright and wife Carol of Fargo, ND Floretta was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Marie Wright, husband Thilford, sister, Francis Horne and brothers, Howard and Norman Wright.
