Marlene A. Olson,75of Devils Lake formerly of Virginia, Minnesota died on Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake.
Funeral Services for Marlene will be held on Monday, December 22, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Naomi Garber will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Marlene will be Oby Scott, Walter Moe, Donald Moe, Joe Yager, George Zenk and Paul Christianson.
Marlene Ann was born on January 25, 1933, the fourth of five children born to Walter B. and Tillie O. (Tollefsrud) Moe at Twin Valley, Minnesota where she grew up and was educated.
Marlene was united in marriage to Marvin E. Olson on July 9, 1949 at Webster, South Dakota. After their marriage, they made their home in Fargo, ND, Breckenridge, Minnesota and spent many years living and working in Virginia, Minnesota. In 1964 they moved to Devils Lake and Marvin bought his first Red Owl Store. Marlene was always involved in many aspects of the store including serving as bookkeeper for many years. Marlene and Marvin made Devils Lake their home the rest of their lives.
Marlene was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Beta Sigma Phi, Eagles Lodge, Elks Lodge and many area bowling leagues. She was also a former member of the Jaycees.
Marlene was an avid reader and loved to play bridge. But, Marlene’s greatest joys came from spending time with her dear family and friends.
Marlene is survived by her loving children: Maureen Kraft and her fiancé, Oby Scott of Devils Lake;
Maralyn Olson of St. Paul, Minnesota and Mark Olson and his wife, Eva also of Devils Lake
Grandson: Nathan Berg of Phoenix, Arizona
Brothers and Sisters-In-Law: Don and Lois Moe of Motley, MN
Walt and Marcy Moe of Tower, MN
Sister: Verona McPherson of Minneapolis, MN
Sister-In-Law: Joyce Kelly of Seattle, Washington
Her beloved feline, Millie the Cat
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin on November 24, 2002; brother, Allan Olaf Moe and sister, Margaret Berg.
