Hazel B. Stoe

Hazel B. Stoe, 93 of Devils Lake formerly Sheyenne, ND died early Friday morning, October 14, 2005 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Hazel will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake. Rev. Harold Ovre, Pastor of St. Olaf Lutheran Church will officiate and burial will be in Chain Lakes Lutheran Cemetery, rural Garske, ND. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Serving as Casket Bearers will be Victor Anderson, Russell Anderson, Richard Anderson, Jerry Larson, Mylo Strand and Harold Halvorson. Music will be provided by JoDee Lagein Hazel B. Swenson was born on November 26, 1911, rural Churchs Ferry, North Dakota, the daughter of Olaf and Jennie (Anderson) Swenson. She attended school at Churchs Ferry, the DeGroat Township School and also Penn High School. She worked for area families, helping with housework, caring for the children and cooking for several years. Hazel was united in marriage to Alfred Stoe on June 23, 1951 at Devils Lake. They established their home in Churchs Ferry and later moved to Sheyenne, ND where they lived and worked. Alfred died on January 18, 1979. Hazel continued to make her home in Sheyenne until a few years ago she moved to Devils Lake and made her home with her sister Mabel. Hazel was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Sheyenne. She loved to knit and do other needlework. She felt very blessed to have such a wonderful and caring sister and dear friends and neighbors. Hazel is survived by her sister, Mabel Swenson, Devils Lake Several Cousins also survive. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred and sister, Agnes Swenson.
