Leland J. Boschee

Leland J. Boschee, 62, of Gilbert, Arizona formerly of Jessie, ND died on Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Hospice of the Valley, Chandler, Arizona. A Memorial Service for Leland will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Fr. Robert Pecotte will officiate and burial will be in the spring at Jessie. Music will be provided by Julie Nelson and Fay Huffman. Leland James Boschee, son of William and Evelyn (Fiebiger) Boschee was born June 1, 1946 at Sharon, ND. He grew up in Griggs County, attended school at Tyrol #4, near Jessie and attended church at St. Lawrence Catholic Church also in Jessie. At age 16, Leland and a friend went to Arizona as Leland had severe health problems with asthma. The dry air in Arizona was great help in controlling his asthma. He found a job on a movie set, having parts in 6 movies. He was known as the “Apache Kid”. He was a stand in and stunt man for “Ben Cartwright” and “Audie Murphy”. He also was in side shows in Apache Junction and Tucson. He was a tour guide at Superstition Mountain, cared for the horses and modeled Western Clothing for a magazine. Leland came back to North Dakota, taking training as a machinist. He worked at Mandan Machine for several years. He also owned and operated his own welding shop at Mercer, ND. Leland loved to travel-Chicago, Montana, Minnesota, North Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Florida, New Mexico and always returned to Apache Junction. Leland was now living near his son, Charles at Gilbert, Arizona. Leland loved camping out and was very handy at crafts. He was a carpenter, had an artistic flare with rock gardens and was talented in small engine, motor and car repairs. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren, Baleigh, Colten, Kaden, Alexandra and Ethaniel and also his nieces and nephews. Leland is survived by his children: Leland James Boschee Jr. of Apache Junction, AZ; Charles Boschee, Gilbert, AZ; Traci Lynn (Joel) Keith, Denver, CO; Terri Wheeler, California and Matthew Boschee, Phoenix, AZ; Grandchildren: Colten, Kaden, Baleigh, Alexandra and Ethaniel Mother: Evelyn Boschee of Devils Lake Brothers and Sisters: Jeanne (Larry) Walth, Wishek, ND; Janice Anderson, Devils Lake; Joyce (Alan) Talle, West Fargo, ND; Lawrence J. Boschee, Minnesota; Julie (Michael) Markey, Fargo, ND. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families also survive. Leland was preceded in death by his father, William; brother, Leonard Boschee; sister, Joanne Boschee and his grandparents.
