Dorothy L. Bryn, 82 of Devils Lake, formerly of the Minnewaukan area, died Monday, January 19, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Dorothy will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake. Rev. Harold Ovre will officiate and burial will be in the spring in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Minnewaukan. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Wednesday (today) from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Serving as Casket Bearers for Dorothy will be Jimmie C. Olson, Ole Olson, Raymond Nelson, Harlan Adahl, Conrad Adahl, Mike Lysne, Curtis Hanson, Carroll Lalum and Ted Lommen. Music will be provided by Russell and Lynda Pearson Dorothy Loree Culp was born on February 5, 1926 at Tulsa, Oklahoma, the daughter of Fred and Mettie (Hodges) Culp. She was raised and educated in Tulsa. She met her future husband on a train trip from Minneapolis, MN. Dorothy was returning to Tulsa after visiting relatives in Minnesota. Einar was returning to Camp Callan, California after a furlough from the Army. Dorothy was united in marriage to Einar Bryn on February 14, 1946 in Tulsa. They made their home in Tulsa until March of 1947 when they moved to the Bryn Brothers Farm in Grand Harbor Township in Ramsey County. They farmed with the brothers until November of 1952, when the family moved to a farm in Eldon Township in Benson County where they farmed and raised beef cattle and made this their home through the years. Dorothy worked for the Benson County Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service(ASCS) in Minnewaukan for 20 years. Einar died on May 9, 1979. In 1985 Dorothy moved to Devils Lake and in December of 2000, Dorothy moved to the Good Samaritan Center. Dorothy was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan. Dorothy is survived by her sons, Derrol Fred and his wife, Rhonda of Rockport, Texas Gordon Dean of Grand Forks, ND Grandchildren: Mike (Amy) Bryn, Anna Cook, Shane (Sophie) Lee, Mandi (Tracy) Huddelson, Justin Lee and Josh Lee. Great Grandchildren: Andrew, Kyle, Nicholas; Michael, Donovan; Destiny, Anna, Sarah; William, Kelsey, Aaron; Rhonda and Derek; Sister: Patty Piper and her husband, Robert of Devils Lake Special Friends: Jimmie and Alvhild Olson of Hillsboro, ND She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Einar and infant son.
