Peter Bachmeier, 75 of Devils Lake died on Sunday, January 4, 2009 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake. Mass of Christian Burial for Pete will be on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. Robert Pecotte will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Lake Region Honor Guard, Camp Grafton. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Thursday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Serving as Casket Bearers for Pete will be his grandchildren. Music will be provided by JoDee Lagein Reading the Sacred Scriptures will be Lois Bachmeier Gift Bearers will be Pete’s Grandchildren, Ashley Bachmeier, Tanner Saari and Cassidy Saari Peter was born on July 25, 1933, at Orrin, ND the son of Milton and Annie (Kraft) Bachmeier. He was reared and educated in the Orrin, Sykeston and New Rockford areas. He served in the United States Air Force for 4 years in Landstuhl, Germany where he met and later married Klara Ohnesorg on August 6, 1955 in Landstuhl. After his honorable discharge, Pete and Klara returned to the Devils Lake area where they lived, worked and raised their sons through the years. Peter was very handy with his hands and thus he worked various construction jobs for several years. In the later years, he started his own business selling cars until he retired. Klara died on October 23, 1997. Pete enjoyed relaxing by the lake lot or taking a trip to Las Vegas. He was also an avid reader of Western Books. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and going boating with them. In these later years, Pete met a special friend, Sandy, and her family. Pete was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, former member of the Eagles and a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving is Peter’s loving family, his special friend, Sandy Johnston Sons: Frank (Louise) Bachmeier, Steve (Tammy) Bachmeier, Gary (Tabitha) Bachmeier all of Devils Lake, Jim (Sue) Bachmeier, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Donald (Vicky) Bachmeier and Scott (Kay) Bachmeier also of Devils Lake. Twenty-Three Grandchildren Twenty-Eight Great Grandchildren Brothers and Sisters: Mike (Doris) Bachmeier, Mary (Leo) Volk of Devils Lake; Adam (Linda) Bachmeier, St. Michael, ND; Irene (Cliff) Bjerke, Jordan, MN; Beatrice (Dave) Christianson, Wadena, MN; Rose (Clarence) Harrison of Coinjock, North Carolina; Paul (Lois) Bachmeier, Alice Winnegge, Judy (Rudolph “Sonny”) Tollefson all of Devils Lake; Sharon (Ross) Mannie of Wray, Colorado; Patty (Merlin) Skadsem and Jerome “Rick” (Lisa) Bachmeier all of Devils Lake. Sister-In-Law: Donna Bachmeier of Fargo, ND Many nieces, nephews and their families also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Klara; brother, Frank Bachmeier; sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Christianson; brother-in-law, Paul Winnegge; niece, Michele Bachmeier and nephew, Thomas Bachmeier.
