Joanne Kay Redroad, 57 of St. Michael, ND journeyed to the Spirit World on December 24, 2008 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.
The Wake for Joanne will be held at St. Michael’s Recreation Center, St. Michael, ND on Thursday, January 1, 2009 beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 8:00 p.m. The Procession to St. Michael’s Recreation Center will leave Wal-Mart at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 2, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Fr. Brian Moen will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Joanne will be Frank Redroad, Frank Lovejoy, Francis “Walls” Littleghost, Sam Merrick, Jr., John Sherman, Richard Jackson, Wesley Jackson and Percy “Box” Cavanaugh.

Joanne Jackson was born on December 4, 1951 at Devils Lake, ND the daughter of Louis and Catherine (Black) Jackson. Joanne was reared and educated on the Spirit Lake Nation, attending school at Littleflower in St. Michael and Maddock High School.
Joanne was united in marriage to Donald G. Redroad on August 27, 1991 and to this union were born four children, Donovan, Kevin, Catherine and Roseanne. Joanne and Donnie resided in the St. Michael area until his journey to the Spirit World on February 6, 1995. Joanne continued to live and work on the Spirit Lake Nation until her death.
Joanne will always be remembered for her devotion to her children, grandchildren and to all those she cared for. She always brought laughter and a smile to those who knew her. Joanne enjoyed playing Bingo at Spirit Lake Casino and Resort. She also enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends.
Joanne loved to share her knowledge of the Dakota Language and was employed as a Dakota Language Educator for Spirit Lake HeadStart and Four Winds Elementary School.
Joanne is survived by her loving family; her children, Donovan Redroad, Kevin (Amanda) Redroad, Cathy (Arrow) Redroad and Roseanne (Jody) Redroad and a very special friend, Verol Greywater;
Grandchildren: Tonyalita Richotte, Illiase Redroad, Brook Redroad, Maria Joshua, Katie Rose Redroad, Journey Redroad, Nicholas Redroad, Latrell Redroad, Matowi McPherson, McKallen Redroad and Kimberly Redroad.
Sisters: Alvina Baer, Rita Jackson, Marie Jackson;
Nephews: Duane Jackson, Richard Jackson, Wesley Jackson, Raymond Merrick, Darren Jackson, Carl Merrick and Sam Merrick Sr.
Nieces: Merle “Gastee” Botone, Rose Merrick LeBeau, Lorna Jackson, Tina Jackson, Marty Jackson and Wanda Ann Jackson; Many cousins, great nieces, great nephews and their families also survive.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; husband, Donald; brothers, Samuel Jackson and Louis Leon Jackson.
