Alma O. Jones

Alma O. Jones, 92 of Devils Lake formerly of Webster, ND died early January 2, 2009 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Alma will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Devils Lake with Pastor Kevin Kaufmann officiating. Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Devils Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Serving as Honorary Bearers for Alma will be her grandchildren Music will be provided by Deb and Curt Hanson, vocalists, Wesley Wakefield, soloist and Lynda Pearson, organist. Alma Ovedia was born on April 24, 1916 in New Folden, MN to Iver and Nellie (Finnestad) Farstad. Alma moved to Devils Lake when she was in the first grade. She graduated from Devils Lake Central High School in May 1934. After graduation, she began working for Dr. Hocking’s Dental Practice. Alma married John Wallace “Bud” Jones on March 29th, 1941. That fall they moved to Los Angeles where they spent five years before returning to the John Jones homestead farm in rural Webster, ND. Alma served as an active 4-H leader and Homemakers Club member for many years. She enjoyed gardening and planting and tending her flowers during the summer months. Alma and her husband, Wally spent many years wintering in Hawaii where she enjoyed swimming everyday and enjoying the company of friends. Alma was a great cook and a special hostess. She and Bud opened their farm home for family and friends for many holiday feasts. Alma is survived by her sons, John Jones and his wife, Colleen of Mandan, ND; Connie K. Weed and her husband, Mark of Fargo; Owen Jones and his wife, Nancy of Hastings, MI; David Jones and his wife, Connie of Webster; Gayle Wakefield and her husband, Bill of Devils Lake; Nancy Wendel and her husband, Mark of Cave Creek, AZ. Fourteen Grandchildren: John Wallace (Gina) Jones III, Cameron Jones, Tanya (Scott Hoyte) Jones, Kati (Brad) Hruby, Ryan (Christy) Weed, Carrie Amber Jones, Lynnae (Justin) Prater, Jason Jones, Stacey (Paul) Frith, James Daniel (Angie) Wakefield, Wesley Wallace Wakefield, Tori Wendel and Cody Wendel Ten Great Grandchildren Sister-In-Law: Evelyn Halvorson, South Burlington, VT Preceded in death by her parents and husband of 62 years, John Wallace Jones on August 14, 2003
