Norbert “Norbit” J. Fournier, 68 of Fort Totten, ND died on Sunday morning, August 30, 3009 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks. Visitation and a Prayer Service for Norbit will be held at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Fort Totten on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 beginning at 3:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 8:00 p.m. Fr. Charles Leute, O.P. and Rev. Jimmy Harris will officiate. Military Honors will be accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6547. The procession to Seven Dolors Catholic Church will leave at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday from the Wal-Mart Lot. Visitation will be held at the Twin Buttes Town Hall, Twin Buttes, ND on Thursday beginning at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Services for Norbert will be held at Twin Buttes Town Hall on Friday, September 4, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. with burial in Twin Buttes Serving as Casket Bearers for Norbit will be Derrick Fournier, Roman Poitra, Anthony Rolland, Randy Crist, Lee Crist, Jarrett Desjarlais, Jesse Dean Cavanaugh, Stacy Dubois Sr., Kenny Charboneau, Paul Cavanaugh, Roger Herman, Jack Dauphinais and Jamey Dauphinais Honorary Bearers will be Jonathan Desjarlais, Stacy Dubois Jr., Earl Desjarlais, Karen Charboneau, Sharon Charboneau, Shirlee Herman, Robert Jetty, Billy Joshua, Tony Charboneau, Angela Cavanaugh, Wayne and Amy Kennedy, Joe and Wanda Lenoir, James and Renae Lenoir, Richard and Sonja Desjarlais, Marie and Ole Olson, Doris Desjarlais, Ivan Blackcloud, Verle Greywater, Bob Greywater, Richard McKay, Bonnie and Peter Bellisle, Sheila Thompson, Anthony and Lorraine Charboneau, Luella Herman, Ordean and Tom Youngbird and all of Norbit’s many family and friends. Our apologies to anyone we may have left out. Music will be provided by Tony and Vina McDonald and Drum Groups from the Spirit Lake Nation. Norbit was born on July 7, 1941 at Elbowoods, ND, the son of Alex and Rose (Nagel) Fournier. He served his country in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged. On July 15, 1962, Norbit was baptized in the Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Fort Totten with Elmer and Evangeline White as his godparents. On July 28, 1962, Norbit and Frances Longie were married and to this union were born three daughters, Jeannie, Shelly and Toni and a son, Napoleon. They later divorced. Norbit married Violet Desjarlais and they adopted a son, Gordon. Norbit and Violet divorced and Norbit left us as a single man. Norbit held varies jobs most notably road construction. He participated in the Spirit Lake Veterans activities, enjoyed being with his children, grandchildren, step children and step grandchildren. He also enjoyed going around the country visiting his many friends. Norbit will be missed, but will continue to be in our hearts forever. Norbit is survived by his loving children: daughters, Jeannie, Shelly and Toni and son, Napoleon; adopted son, Gordon Fournier; Special Children: Karla and Lars; Adopted Children: Marie Olson, Doris Desjarlais, Bonnie Bellisle, Priscilla Desjarlais, Rick Desjarlais, Virgil Desjarlais and Wayne Kennedy. Eighteen Grandchildren, Eight Great Grandchildren and many step children and step grandchildren; His long time mate: Violet Fournier Sisters: Marian Medicine Stone and Mary Rose Ziman; Adopted Sister: Ordean Ironshield; Brothers: Duane Bull, Corbert Fournier, George Fournier; Adopted Brother: Ivan Fournier; Many nieces, nephews and their families. Norbit was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Rose; twin boys and daughter, Mattie Rose; brothers, Rodney Fournier, Clayton Bull and Donny Nagel; sisters, Georgie Ann and Edith.
