Frieda M. Sabie, 96 of Devils Lake, ND died on Friday, December 5, 2008 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.
Funeral Services for Frieda will be held on Monday, December 8, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake. Fr. Charles Leute, O.P. will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
Frieda Marie Hassig was born on November 26, 1912, the daughter of Josef Anton and Sophie (Tiefenaur) Hassig in rural Devils Lake where she was reared and educated.
Frieda was united in marriage to Thorsten Christensaus “Bud” Sabie on August 17, 1935 at Langdon, ND. They made their home in Devils Lake through the years, except for a short time when they lived in Billings, Montana. For the past 14 years, Frieda has lived at the Odd Fellows Home.
Prior to Frieda’s marriage, she was employed at the North Dakota School for the Deaf and from 1958 to the time of her retirement in 1975, Frieda was employed by Ramsey County Farm Bureau and Nodak Mutual Insurance Company.
In her retirement, she enjoyed quilting, gardening and Hardanger.
Frieda is survived by her Daughter, JoAnne Briese of Billings, Montana;
Sons and Daughters-In-Law: Thorsten “TJ” and Patty Sabie of Embarrass, Minnesota
David and Becky Sabie of Minneapolis, Minnesota
Daniel and Helen Sabie of Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Six Grandchildren: Paula Ellefson and her husband, Ernie of Marcell, MN; Laura Cash, Steven Sabie, Jonathan Sabie and his wife, Susan and Colin Sabie and Isabel Sabie all of Minneapolis;
Five Great Grandchildren: Larry, Jessica and John Laird of Lebanon, Ohio and Justin and Josh Briese of Billings, Montana;
Three Sisters: Mary Stoffel, Minneapolis and Lois Eastman, Portland, Oregon;
Brother: Bernard Hassig and his wife, Doris of Alexandria, Minnesota;
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thorsten on February 7, 1994; granddaughter, Jan Marie Sabie Laird; grandsons, Matthew Allen Sabie and David Briese; sister, Sophia Engle; three brothers, Joseph, killed in action in World War II, Edwin and Frank Hassig.
