George W. Shipley Jr. 74 of Streeter, and formerly of the Minnewaukan/Devils Lake area died on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at MedCenter One Hospital in Bismarck, ND.
Funeral Services for George will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Free Lutheran Church, Minnewaukan. Rev. Lu Mathison will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Visitation for George will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Visitation on Thursday will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
Pall bearers for George will be his grandsons, Kirk Shipley Jr., Seth Shipley, Levi Shipley, Marty Shipley, Chris Loehr and Triston Shipley.
George was born in Devils Lake, ND on December 2, 1933 to George W. and Margaret (Vanderlin) Shipley. He attended Devils Lake Central High School. He lived in the Devils Lake area many years, before moving to Streeter, ND where he lived until the time of his death.
George’s entire life has always revolved around the cattle business. In earlier years, George raised beef & dairy cattle, drove truck hauling cattle & horses and was employed by Peavey Elevator in Devils Lake, ND.
George’s later years brought about his true love when he began working as a cattle buyer for Long Prairie Meat Packing Company, Long Prairie, MN. George worked for Long Prairie Meat Packing for 25 years up until his death.
George was very proud of his achievements and his 36 year Sobriety with Alcoholics Anonymous.
George is survived by his very special friend, Marilyn;

Three Step Daughters: Jill (Rob) Balzer, Bismarck; Stacy (Rick) Bader, Lehr, ND; Carmen (Neil) Nicholsen, Dawson, ND;
Many Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren;
Brother: Charles Shipley, Devils Lake; Sister: Karen (Ernie) Osowski, Grand Forks; Uncle: Mike Shipley also of Grand Forks;
Many nieces, nephews and their families also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
