Elmer H. Stenson

Elmer H. Stenson, 91 of Marshall, MN formerly of Turtle Lake and Devils Lake, ND died on Monday evening, December 1, 2008. Funeral Services for Elmer will be held on Friday, December 5, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Rev. Naomi Garber officiating. Graveside Services will be held at the Turtle Lake Cemetery on Friday at 2:30 p.m. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m at Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake. Visitation on Friday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Serving as Casket Bearers for Elmer will be his grandchildren, Kevin Stenson, Craig Stenson, Amy Stenson, Carrie Doom, Keeley Nitschke and Brent Steinhaus. Music will be provided by Russell and Lynda Pearson. Elmer H. Stenson was born January 7, 1917 at home near Turtle Lake, N.D. the son of Elling and Minnie (Westrum) Stenson. He attended a country school in rural Turtle Lake. Elmer was associated with Farmers Union Cenex from 1939 until his retirement in 1979. He managed Cenex stations in Turtle Lake, McVille and Devils Lake, N.D. On September 28, 1941, Elmer was united in marriage to Elsie Grosz Ruck in Turtle Lake where they established their home. They moved to Devils Lake in 1949 where they lived, worked and raised their family through the years. In 2006 they moved to Minnesota to be closer to family. Elmer was a charter member of the Turtle Lake Credit Union and served on various boards in Devils Lake. He was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, served on the church council in various positions and as president in 1970. Elmer was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Odd Fellows. Elmer is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elsie Ruck Stenson, Marshall, MN Sons and Daughters-In-Law: Gary and Rita Stenson of Naples, FL Mark and Claudia Stenson of Marshall, MN Daughter and Son-In-Law: LaNae and Russ Steinhaus of Littleton, CO Six Grandchildren: Kevin Stenson, Lafayette, CO Craig and Jenn Stenson, St. Louis, MO Amy Stenson, Rochester, MN Carrie and Greg Doom, Cambridge, MN Keeley and Chad Nitschke, White Bear Lake, MN Brent and Katie Steinhaus, Spicer, MN Twin Sister: Ellen Romsaas, Bismarck, N.D. Preceded in death by an infant son and twin daughters; parents, Elling and Minnie Westrum Stenson; brothers, Harold Westrum, Alvin Stenson and Burnett (Bud) Stenson
