Penelope R. “Penny” Hasse, 66 of Devils Lake died on Sunday, October 26, 2008 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake.
Mass of Christian Burial for Penny will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake at 10:00 a.m. Fr. Dale Kinzler will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Visitation on Wednesday will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Thursday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Penny will be Gary Bryn, Greg Solga, Bruce Hagen, Chaun Foughty, Brian Pederson and Harlan Adahl.
Honorary Bearers will be Karen Zinke, Conrad Adahl, and Larry Legacie.
Music will be provided by Sherry Kurtz and JoDee Lagein
Penelope R. Bryn was born on July 10, 1942 in Burbank, California, the daughter of George and Ruth E. (Fread) Bryn. At a very young age she moved with the family to the farm in Grand Harbor Township, Ramsey County where she was raised. She attended elementary school in Grand Harbor and graduated from Devils Lake Central High School. She then graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She dedicated herself to the caring practice of nursing for 34 years as an employee of Mercy Hospital. Penny was united in marriage to Curtiss Hasse on May 6, 1962 at Devils Lake. They established their home in Devils Lake and lived, worked and raised their family here through the years.
When Penny was younger she enjoyed snowmobiling and the friends that were made on snowmobile outings. She had many hobbies and interests which included cross stitching and classical and jazz music. She was an excellent cook and loved to have gatherings of family and friends and anytime she could spoil grandchildren with a favorite meal or gift, she was overjoyed. Penny spent her life caring for her family and others in need. She was a generous, loving and compassionate person. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, George “Oscar” Bryn Jr.
