Harry M. Zacher, 86, Devils Lake formerly of the Maddock, ND area died on Monday, April 30, 2007 at the Carrington Hospital, Carrington, ND
Mass of Christian Burial for Harry will be held on Friday, May 4, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. Robert Pecotte will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2007 at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. The Rosary will be led by the Knights of Columbus. Visitation on Friday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.
Serving as Casket Bearers will be Troy Zacher, Craig Zacher, Donovan Ziegler, Dean Miller, Richard Ziegler and Tim Miller.
Reading the Scriptures will be Tammi Johnson and Barry Miller.
Gift Bearers will be Harry’s Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren
Music will be provided by Peter A. Hager, soloist and JoDee Lagein, organist
Harry Martin Zacher was born May 28, 1920, the son of George and Margaret (Abel) Zacher at Balta, ND where he was reared and educated. Harry was united in marriage to Anna Eisenzimmer on October 16, 1939 at Balta where they established their home on the farm. In 1946 they moved to Clearfield, Utah and Harry worked as Shop Foreman for Ogden Arsenal for 5 years. From 1951-1954 they lived in Esmond, ND then moved to Maddock where they farmed through the years, retiring in 1982. In 1990 they moved to Devils Lake. Anna died December 14, 1997. Harry continued to make his home in Devils Lake and for the past 3 months was a resident at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd.
For over 30 years, Harry was active in the St. Williams Catholic Church, Maddock and was in charge of the Green Wood Cemetery. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Eagles and Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Harry was active in many community activities and served as Benson County NFO Treasurer, chairman of Maddock Fire District, repairman and chairman of North Viking Telephone Line and Township Supervisor for many years.
Harry was an accordionist who truly enjoyed playing for the Senior Citizen Center and in nursing homes in the Lake Region area. He enjoyed fishing and also was especially talented at building and repairing things. Harry called it “Tinker and Puts”.
Harry was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and his beautiful smile and loving heart will be forever missed. May he rest in God’s peace.

Many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Anna; parents, George and Margaret; two brothers and a sister.
