George F. Morken, 53 of Devils Lake, ND died Friday, October 31, 2008 at Heartland Care Center, surrounded by his wife, daughters and loving family.
Mass of Christian Burial for George will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. Dale Kinzler will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Fr. Dale Kinzler will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation on Wednesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Lake Region Honor Guard, Camp Grafton.
Serving as Casket Bearers for George will be Dick Prozinski, Tony Prozinski, Ron L. Knutson, K.J. Peterson, Mark L. Urvand and Riley Morken.
Reading the Sacred Scriptures will be David Bertsch and Patty Prozinski.
Bringing forth the Eucharistic Gifts will be Kayla Peterson, Mindy Cavanaugh, Misty Peterson and Sadie Peterson.
Music will be provided by Tom Burckhard and JoDee Lagein
George Frank Morken was born on April 28, 1955 in Grand Forks, ND the son of Leroy and Marise (Clemo) Morken. He grew up in rural Pekin, ND and was educated and graduated from McVille Public School. George served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea.
George was united in marriage to Tammy Bertsch on September 11, 1992 at the United Methodist Church in Devils Lake. This marriage was blessed with two wonderful daughters, Brittany and Courtney.
Over the years, George worked at Firestone, Nordic Fiberglass, Schwan Wholesale Company and Leever’s.
One of the many things George liked to do,was to joke and laugh with his two daughters and watching football with his brothers, Pete and Brian. He was also an avid deer and duck hunter. He loved the great outdoors.
George is survived by his wife Tammy of 16 years;
Daughters: Brittany and Courtney;
His siblings, Darlette (Gary) Johnson of Salem, Oregon, Denise Urvand, Julie (Kendell) Peterson, Pete Morken and Brian (Jodie Longie) Morken all of Devils Lake;
Father-in-law and Mother-in-law, David and Carol Bertsch also of Devils Lake
Many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Gayette Knutson; grandparents and one nephew.
