Ann Kurtz, 91 of Devils Lake, ND died on Friday, March 4, 2005 at her home in Devils Lake. Mass of Christian Burial for Ann will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. C.F. Wilhelm will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Devils Lake. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Thursday will be at the church one hour prior to the Mass. Serving as Pallbearers will be Greg Kurtz, David Kurtz, Todd Kurtz, Randy Eisenzimmer, Rodney Eisenzimmer, Tom Kraft and Kelly Anderson. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Ann’s Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren. Reading the Scriptures will be Mary Ann McDonald Gift Bearers will be Ann’s Children Ann Burkhard was born on November 15, 1913 at Fulda, ND, the daughter of Anton and Katherine (Miltenburger) Kurtz. She attended school in a one room schoolhouse south of Berwick, ND. In 1926 she moved with her family to Baker, ND and attended the Isabel Township School. Ann was united in marriage to John C. Kurtz on November 13, 1934 at Esmond, ND. They established their home on a farm south of Rolette, ND. In 1937 they moved south of Rugby and in 1939 they moved to rural Devils Lake. In 1956 they moved into Devils Lake where they lived and worked through the years. Ann worked for 12 years at St. Joseph’s School. She then worked as a Hostess at Hardee’s for 3 years and at the Artclare Motel until she retired. John died on April 5, 1993. Ann continued to make her home in Devils Lake and in 1995 moved to her present home, The Opera House. Ann was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Altar Society where she served as President for 3 years; then St. Joseph’s Altar Society and St. Jude’s Circle. She was also a member of Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and the RSVP. (Retired Senior Volunteer Program). Ann started her volunteer work in 1970 after she retired and at the present had continued to volunteer at the Senior Center. Ann always made sure that her Catholic faith and church came first in her life and that her children attended Catholic school. Ann’s children and grandchildren were her most precious treasures in life and she was always there for them and who ever else needed her. Ann is survived by her children Donald R. Kurtz, Grand Forks Loretta Eisenzimmer Fandrich and her husband, Arnold, New Rockford Gary Kurtz and his wife, Judy, Bismarck Nine Grandchildren: Greg Kurtz, Jody Kurtz, David Kurtz; Sandy Stagner, Debbie Kraft, Randy Eisenzimmer, Rodney Eisenzimmer, Becky Anderson; Todd Kurtz. Twelve Great Grandchildren: Cory, Jamie and Adam Peterson, Chris, Matt and Johnny Kraft, Jade and Johnna Eisenzimmer, Jonathan, Danny and Mason Kurtz, and Kobe Stagner. Two Great Great Grandchildren: Alec and Kaley Peterson Sisters: Lena Volk, Harvey Helen Streifel, Devils Lake Marie Ridley, Dickenson Brothers: John (Delores) Burkhard, Crookston, MN Michael Burkhard, Maricopa, AZ Raymond (Gloria) Burkhard, Devils Lake Many Nieces and Nephews also survive. Preceded in death by her husband; son-in-law, Johnny Eisenzimmer; sister, Barbara Scheer.
