Emma M. Becker, 89, of Devils Lake, died Wednesday morning, February 23, 2005 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake.
Funeral Services for Emma will be held on Monday, February 28, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Justin Schmidt will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m. Visitation on Monday will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and then at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Emma Minnie Hejlik was born on August 4, 1915 at home in rural Brocket, ND the daughter of Eman and Mary (Bosh) Hejlik. She was reared and educated in rural Brocket attending country school. She helped around the farm and neighborhood for a time and then moved to Virginia, Minnesota where she worked as a waitress at a hotel. Emma was united in marriage to Marland O. “Marley” Becker on November 11, 1941 at Devils Lake. They established their home in Ontario Township, Ramsey County, where they farmed. In 1955, they moved to Tokio where they owned and operated The General Store for 10 years. They moved to Lawton and owned and operated a grocery store for 5 years. In the 1970’s, they moved to Devils Lake where they lived through the years. Marley died on December 15, 2001. Emma moved to the Good Samaritan Center in June of 2001.
Emma was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and LLCW. She was very active in the quilting circle of the church.
Emma had many hobbies and pastimes and especially enjoyed quilting, crocheting and gardening. She had such a green thumb when caring for houseplants of all kinds. She was an excellent cook and baker and it gave her such joy to be able to share these homemade goodies with her family. She took great pride in her family and so loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and always was interested in the events of their lives.
She appreciated the wonderful care given to her by the staff of the Good Samaritan Center and was so pleased to be named the Valentine’s Day Queen on February 14, 2002.
Her caring and loving smile will be so missed.

Great Grandchildren: Sloan, Marly, Abby, Averi, Paiton, Alyson, Reece, Addison, Charisse and RyLee.
Sisters: Agnes Pepoon, Devils Lake
Mary Schroeder, Missoula, Montana
Many Nieces and Nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marley; brothers, Bill, Joe and Eman Hejlik; sisters, Christine Bina, Rose Seykora and Helen Pecka.
