William “Bill” Toso, 96 of Devils Lake, ND died on Saturday morning, August 1, 2009 at the Heartland Care Center in the loving care of his family and Mercy Hospice of Devils Lake.
Funeral Services for Bill will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Jeff Nicla will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m with a Prayer Service and Time of Remembrance at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Wednesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Bill will be Lynn Toso, Todd Toso, Leroy Toso, Arden Toso, Clarence Toso, David Togstad, Gary Togstad and Curtis Togstad.
Music will be provided by JoDee Lagein and Peter A. Hager.
William Toso was born on April 12, 1913 in Isabel Township, rural Esmond, North Dakota, the son of Conrad and Ida Toso. He grew up on the family farm and attended school at Isabel Township. He was baptized and confirmed at Manaual Lutheran Church, rural Esmond.
William was united in marriage to Evelyn Togstad on December 30, 1939 in Minnewaukan, ND. Bill worked on area farms and in 1943 moved to Devils Lake where he was employed at Fairmont Creamery. In 1945, he began working for Northern Seed and Feed Company. In 1959, Bill began employment with the North Dakota State Highway Department until he retired in 1978. Bill served in the Civilian Conservation Corp from 1935-1936.
Bill was a long time member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and volunteered many hours for many years at Heartland Care Center.
Bill was the neighborhood “yard man”, keeping the lawns mowed and the sidewalks shoveled. Bill was a truly devoted husband, father and grandfather whose heart showed love and caring concern to everyone he met and especially his grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Evelyn;
Sons: Larry Toso and his wife, Lila of Windsor, Colorado~Lanis Toso and his wife, Kim of Devils Lake;
Six Grandchildren: Cindy Toso and Todd (Gretchen) Toso all of Loveland, Colorado and Lynn (Deb) Toso, Penn, ND; Lanny Toso of Farmington, New Mexico, Kristy Toso and Michael Toso both of Devils Lake;
Four Great Grandchildren: Kaylee Toso, Garrett Toso, Tanner Toso and Taleah Toso.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters and eight brothers.
