In Loving Memory William Ambrose Littleghost Jr. Hehaka Wang Hipi "Elk Come To See Him" July 4, 1932 - July 31, 2009 William "Ambose" Littleghost Jr., 77 years old of Fort Totten North Dakota, passed into the spirit world,peacefully in his sleep on July 31, 2009 in the V.A. Hospital in Fargo North Dakota. William "Ambrose Littleghost was born on July 4, 1932 to William and Susie (BlackFox) Littleghost of Fort Totten, ND. He attended Fort Totten boarding school until he enlisted in the United States Army in 1951. He fought in Korea and was wounded in action. mbrose returned home and was united in marriage to Aileen Hazel Howard in 1959, at St. Elizabeth Church in Wakpala South Dakota. They made their home in Los Angeles, California, Wakpala, South Dakota and finally Fort Totten, North Dakota. They have two children Sheila and Vinson Littleghost to complete their lives. Ambrose completed training as a certified welder, then returned to Fort Totten in 1971 where they made their home. He had many professions in his life; working with the police department in Fort Totten, the CHR program for Spirit Lake and finally working with IHS program. Ambrose loved his traditional way of life. He taught many people that there is "no one way" but there is a way that is a thousand years old. He was father, grandfather, teacher, brother, uncle, too many people from many walks of life. Ambrose Littleghost had a great love for his people and was known for his community work with the people. He would travel to the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND and Moorhead, Minnesota to work with the students from different reservations. He helped with all the celebrations and pow-wows held at the college and universities. He taught Dakota language, history and culture for various colleges and events. Ambrose believde in teaching our native language was a way to save our culture and language. He worked with different prison systems across the United States with Native people to help them with their spirituality. He also worked with Tribal Historic Preservation, Repatriation, "DOT" Department of Transportation, Dakota Reconciliation, and many different programs. Ambrose never said no when asked to help the people. He would travel where ever he was asked and in his travels he made many Hunka relatives. He has been recognized by many tribal leaders and professional leaders for his help among the people. Ambrose was a very loving father. He gave encouraging words and support to his daughter and son. He had a special place in his heart for his daughter, Sheila. He had a special relationship with his children, grandchildren and great granddaughter. Ambrose was a very giving man especially to his grandchildren. He loved his grandchildren very much and they loved him with all their hearts. Ambrose will be greatly missed by his family and won't be forgotten. William Ambrose is survived by his wife Aileen, daughter, Sheila (Todd Belgarde) Littleghost, son, Vinson (Wanda) Littleghost, grandchildren Alicia, Noelle and Christina Gourd, Lance, Virginia, Vinson Jr, Harley Littleghost one great granddaughter Ava Gourd all of Fort totten ND. Sisters: Ernestine Herman Fort Totten ND, Bernice (Charles) John, Fort Totten ND, Ramona Cannon(Ron Eagleman)Fort Totten ND, Janice (Carl) Mckay Fort Totten and numerous hunka relatives. He is preceded in death by his brothers Duane Cavanaugh, Benedict Littleghost, Herbert Rainbow and sister, Angeline Littleghost Shaw, his parents William Littleghost and Susie Littleghost Cavanaugh. Pallbearers: Whalen "Bud" Shaw, Denny Greywater, Carl Mckay Jr., Chris Cavanaugh, Justin Peltier, Todd Belgarde, Patrick Yuwakie and Daniel Boyd Herman. Hononary Bearers: Rick and Etherine Two Dogs, Miles and LaDonna Allard, J.T. Belgarde, Cindy Mala, Kent Good, Dr. McNeil, Art and Nico Redhorse, Pam Belgarde, Locklain Farline, Nancy Greywater, Buddy Alberts, Danny and Patsy Seaboy, David Seaboy, Lawrence Littleghost, Earl Bullhead, Paul and Sharon Prochaska, Peggy Furshong, Skip and Darlis Longie, John and Ramona Chaske, Gaylord and Renae Peltier, Melvin and Madonna Yuwakie, Jeanie Bochard, George IronShield, Chuck Ross, Rick Thomas, Gene ThinElk, Christy Goulet, Janice Bad Moccasin, VFW Post #6547 of Fort Totten and all cousins, relatives, hunka and all whose lives were touched in a special way by Ambrose. Those who are officiating throughout the days of Traditional Services for Ambrose are Rick Two Dogs, Rick Thomas, Skip Longie, Miles Allard, Danny Seaboy and other Spiritual Leaders. The family welcomes the Rhythm Riders to share their songs and invites any drum group to their home to share their music and be of support to the family. Traditional Services will be held at the Littleghost Home, rural Fort Totten from Monday, August 03, 2009 through Thursday, August 6, 2009. Ambrose will be laid to rest on Thursday at his home with Military Honors accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6547.
