Roger C. Breakey, 67, of rural Webster, ND died early Sunday morning after a brief bout of cancer on August 28, 2005 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.
Funeral Services for Roger will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Rev. Harold Ovre will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Ted Zimmer, Gordon Fugle, Roscoe Reynolds and Richard Harvey.
Active Pallbearers will be Pete Martinson, Tom Peterson, John Baker, Kenneth Paulson, Kermit “Buzz” Garske and Lee LaBarre.
Music will be cared for by Dick Regan and Kevin Regan, Soloists and Jean Aardahl, Organist.
Roger was born on December 31, 1937 in Devils Lake, ND the son of Thomas W. and Dallice R. (Peterson) Breakey. Roger was reared and educated in Devils Lake, graduating from Central High School in 1955. Roger was united in marriage to Janice Harrington on June 16, 1957 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. They first operated their own truck for Soper Brothers Construction. In 1958, they began farming the John Quast farm, rural Webster and soon after started buying their own land. In 1969, they purchased and moved to the 4 1/2 quarters east of Webster where they lived, worked and raised their family. Roger and Janice wintered in Lake Havasu, Arizona for 20 years where Roger loved to visit with friends and especially enjoyed playing golf.
Roger had a passion for his family and farming. His most precious time was the time he spent with his children and grandchildren.
Roger is a former member of Scandinavia Lutheran Church and presently a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. He served on both the Harding and Morris Township’s boards, the Lutheran Home board for 14 years and the Crop Improvement Association where he served as president for 1 year. He was also a member of the Devils Lake Elks and Eagles Lodges.
