Mildred E. Marshall, 101 a long time resident of Devils Lake, ND died on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Funeral Services for Mildred will be Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. at Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake. Rev. David Birkeland will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Serving as Casket Bearers for Millie will be Ray Strong, Kenny Koehn, Donovan Herman and Peter Hager. Music will be provided by Russell and Lynda Pearson. Mildred Elvie was born on June 10, 1907, the daughter of Herman and Wilhelmine “Minnie” Warnke at Ohiowa, Nebraska were she grew up and was educated graduating from Ohiowa High School. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree, graduating Cum Laude, from Doane College in Crete, Nebraska in 1930. She taught English and Latin at several Nebraska High Schools from 1930 to 1941. Millie was united in marriage to Earl B. Marshall on December 13, 1940. In 1942, they moved to St. Louis, Missouri and remained there until World War II ended. In 1946, they moved to Devils Lake after Earl was offered a teaching position here. Mildred gave up teaching at that time and had a long career as a devoted wife and mother and homemaker. They would live the rest of their lives in Devils Lake where they worked and raised their son. Millie’s hobbies were baking, gardening and stamp collecting. She was happiest working in her back yard with her many flower beds. She also liked traveling around the United States with her husband Earl, mostly by automobile. Millie was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all. She leaves behind a son, Larry K. Marshall and his wife, Alicia of San Diego, California and three grandchildren, Stephen Marshall and twins Susan Marshall and Sandra Mello. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl on December 8, 2004 and sister, Ethel Sipe.
