Dale R. Fleming, 65 of Cando formerly of Crary, ND died on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at his home.
Funeral Services for Dale will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake. Rev. Jamie Desai will officiate and burial will be in the Crary Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Lake Region Honor Guard, Camp Grafton.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Wednesday (today) from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation on Thursday will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
Casket Bearers for Dale will be Steve Vetter, Dennis Westby, Ray Dearton, Dave Dennis, Steve Torpy and Errol Loken.
Honorary Bearers will be all of Dale’s nieces and nephews and his many dear friends from Cando.
Music will be provided by Russell and Lynda Pearson.
Dale Robert was born on February 14, 1943 at Devils Lake, ND the son of Lloyd and Mabel (Dohmstreich) Fleming. He grew up in the Devils Lake area and was educated in Crary, graduating from Crary High School in 1961. He began studies at Mayville State Teachers’ College, but was called to military service.
Dale entered the United States Air Force on June 28, 1965 and served his country during the Vietnam War with the 4603rd Air Base Group. Dale was honorably discharged on December 16, 1968 at Stewart Air Force Base, New York with the rank of Sergeant. After his discharge, he returned to Mayville and graduated with a degree in Education. He taught for a short time in Crary then began working for the United States government at several missile sites in northeastern North Dakota including Nekoma and Cavalier. He was employed with Noodles by Leonardo in both Cando and Devils Lake. Most recently, Dale worked as a bookkeeper for Dahl Trucking at Langdon and Dennis Westby Trucking out of the Cando area.
Dale enjoyed playing cards with his friends and won the last “Cribbage” game he played. He also had a passion for the Green Bay Packers and was one of their most loyal fans.
He will be greatly missed by his dear family and many friends.
Dale is survived by his brothers, John Fleming of West Fargo, ND and Burton Fleming of Northfield, Minnesota.
Many nieces, nephews and their families also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Roger Fleming and Ray Fleming.
