Gertrude E. Janzen, 96, of Devils Lake formerly of Munich, ND died on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center of Devils Lake.
Funeral Services for Gertrude will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. at the Salem Mennonite Church, Munich, ND. Rev. Eric Butters will officiate and burial will be in the South Salem Cemetery, rural Munich.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Sunday will be at the church from 2:00 p.m. until time of service.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Gertrude will be her grandchildren.
Music will be provided by the vocal trio of Ellen Dick, Joan Heppner and Carol Hoffman with Maxine Janzen as organist.
Gertrude was born on March 18, 1912 at Centralia, Missouri to Ricie and Abbie (Welch) Cornelison. At a very young age, she came to the Munich area of North Dakota with her father, as her mother had died when Gertrude was an infant. She grew up there and attended school in Munich. Gertie was united in marriage to Peter L. Janzen on December 1, 1937 at Munich. They lived and farmed near Munich until 1951. They then moved to the Hampden area and continued to farm. In 1964, Gertie and Peter returned to Munich and ran Janzen’s Jack and Jill until they retired in 1977. Peter died in November of 1985. Gertie continued to make Munich her home.
Gertrude was a member of the Salem Mennonite Church.
Gertrude enjoyed crocheting and sharing her many creations with her family and friends. She loved children and seeing her grandchildren and spending time with her family brought her much joy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Peter L. Janzen; son, Darryl J.Janzen; her step mother, Helen (Hall) Cornelison and sister, Florence Bukowski.
